Yet another showcase event for Brown where he caught everyone’s attention, headlined by his one-handed poster dunk over a 6-foot-10 defender driving baseline that put the gym into a frenzy. He’s much more than an athletic finisher though, as the 6-foot-4 guard can operate fluidly off the bounce and get to spots on the floor with efficiency. A lot of Brown’s game reminds me of a former BCL standout in Mason Ellison (Delaware) when you look at his build, athleticism and fluid mid range game. The ceiling with Brown continues to rise with each viewing as he looks to be an impact sophomore on the Baltimore Catholic League and MIAA A Conference this winter. The body of work thus far makes it a safe bet as a breakout candidate. Brown was voted into the Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game where he strung together some strong moments.

Another 2029 talent at John Carroll, Brown made a lasting impression on me with his play at The Expo. A wiry 6-foot-3 guard with bouncy athleticism, he nearly threw down one of the posters of the event in their game against Abington Friends School. Not many players in his class locally could’ve even attempted the play he made, but it speaks to his mindset when he’s got a clear path for takeoff. Nevertheless, Brown’s smooth operating ability on the ball surfaced in both matchups as he got to spots with precision before rising up and sinking pull-ups with confidence. Despite missing the one dunk attempt mentioned earlier, Brown still had a chance to display the bounce in transition as a lob-catcher, which is something that should be fairly routine for the videographers attending John Carroll games this season.

One of the biggest stock risers in the event, Brown received the nod as a no-brainer for First Team. Heading into his sophomore season, I’d expect Brown to be a cornerstone piece for a John Carroll group that is young and looking for the next wave of prospects to grow quickly over the next year. Brown’s ability to score it from three levels, play athletically above the rim and his competitiveness as a rebounding guard will all contribute to him not only being one of the better player on the Patriots’ roster, but one of the better sophomores in the Baltimore Metro area.

-By far, and I mean by far, the most improved player that I saw not only at The Expo but probably the entire offseason. A polished scorer that could really fill it up from the midrange and in the paint with drives to the rim last season for a very good John Carroll JV team– Brown showed off an improved vertical that makes him an even more devastatingly-efficient finisher in the halfcourt. Brown made several plays above the rim, showed a great first step and sees the floor well OTB, walked into an NBA 3 in the secondary break, and pushed the pace in transition really well throughout the course of the afternoon. If this weekend is any indication, the Patriots should have a nice replacement for graduating all-time leading scorer Aiden Able in the lightning-quick sophomore guard.

Brown was definitely one of the bigger stock risers from this event and set the tone as one of the massive foundational pieces for John Carroll’s program moving forward. The future is bright as the 6’3″ nearing 6’4″ guard let the gym know about his athleticism with a share of high-flying dunks. He gets into his shot off the bounce with minimal time, space and effort with his mechanics. He made good reads as a drive-and-kick threat where he maintained floor vision during his attack and zipped passes with either hand. Brown competed on the boards, pursued 50/50s and was the only player I saw take a charge in transition to save his team from giving up a bucket.

All in all, Brown will be heavily on my radar moving forward. Not just because of his performance today, but the rapid rate of improvement over the last 4-5 months.

The signs for a strong sophomore campaign continued to surface with Brown whether it came in Capitol Hoops Summer League, DMV Live or his grassroots season. The 6-foot-3 guard enters 2026-27 as one of the key cogs for a young Patriots roster who will need him to produce in multiple statistical categories and there were strong enough spurts over the last three months to make me a believer that he’s up for the task. He attacks fluidly off the dribble to get to spots in minimal bounces, can knock down three’s at a high clip and has good feel as a ball mover against aggressive closeouts or double teams. This will be a great opportunity for him to showcase when he can do in a free-flowing setting where he gets to play in space and show off timing as he hovers around the perimeter.

-Brown continues to impress our scouts as a creative point guard that scored in double figures in all but 9 of his summer league games this offseason. Brown changes the height and speed of his dribble well to get to his spots in the halfcourt, makes good decisions attacking closeouts on the perimeter on the second side of an action, and is probably at his best scoring the basketball in transition at the rim. If he can utilize the paint touches that he generates to create for corner shooters or make the play to the drop big, he will become even that much more difficult to guard.

Steering a narrow win for DC Premier ‘s 15U on Saturday morning, Brown continued to build on a strong June scholastic period while showing long-term upside that’s right there with most any BCL guard in his class. A lanky playmaking guard with standout positional size, Brown was constantly in attack mode but managed to consistently stay under control in the process. He saw the floor well when cut off on his drives and showed a willingness to attack through contact despite lacking much strength on his youthful frame. Brown will be new to the varsity level this year but should make his mark quickly and could have D1 coaches beginning to monitor his progress before much longer.

Daniel Brown is a 2029 Guard playing for John Carroll. He’s an advanced scorer for his age, being able to get off plenty of shots in a multitude of ways. He has a knack for scoring at all 3 levels and can do it off the bounce or off the catch. He had 19 points in his team’s matchup vs. St. Andrews.

-Explosive downhill driving guard that is constantly probing the defense and creating advantage situations for his team. Love his finishing bag around the rim and in the paint to score effectively in the halfcourt. Defensively he is a difficult guard to score on when he’s locked in, poking out live dribble turnovers and switching ends quickly for his team.
