Expert Analysis
Colby Giacubeno | Prep Hoops Scout
There were stretches throughout this game where Clark flat-out dominated. All of his work was done in the paint around the bucket, but the Randolph-Macon pledge showed why he’ll have a chance to earn early minutes within Josh Merkel’s rotation at the next level with his ability to haul in rebounds in bulk. On the few occasions where he missed bunnies around the bucket, Clark quickly snagged the second chance opportunity and converted. He was efficient from the charity stripe, ran the floor consistently and was the ultimate factor in John Carroll staying within reach before St. Frances’ late game run. Clark’s 22 points was matched with double-digit rebounds to secure the double-double performance.

While his team took a narrow loss, it was no fault of Clark, who did yeoman’s work around the basket throughout the game in a hyper-efficient 20-point effort. Clark thrived sticking to his bread and butter as a workmanlike operator near the basket. He consistently beat opposing bigs down the floor to get position in early offense, presenting a great target for his guards with soft hands and swift technique as a finisher through traffic. Clark also showed good activity on the glass on both ends (9 rebounds) and as a rim protector. While Randolph-Macon consistently recruits at as high a level as you’ll find in D3, Clark could still prove to be a steal as he continues to look and produce like a surefire scholarship-level prospect in the frontcourt.

-The Randolph Macon commit impressed throughout the game with his activity on the glass but it wasn’t until the 2H that he asserted himself as a post scorer. Loved the physicality and timing of his seals under the rim to give his guards a good entry option while also keeping the ball high to avoid turnovers. Clark also came out of nowhere to block 3 shots throughout the game as an active help defender that takes pride in protecting the rim.

Andrew played an impressive game through an intense and high-energy contest. He ended the game in double-digits scoring-wise, collecting 13 important points along with 9 rebounds. Andrew looked as smooth as ever from inside the paint. Didn’t rush his looks at the rim and ook the time to find the best shot available before takng his attempt. Had a few moments in the game that he had to muscle off smaller opponents and still get his shot up, which he did successfully more then once. Andrew played sound fundamental defense that earned him a couple blocks and forced a lot of misses. Andrew played a winning brand of basketball and stood out to me because of how he starred in his role for John Carroll.

Clark established some momentum dating back to June during the scholastic live period with some Patriot League programs. As of now, Navy is the DI who he hears most from while some high-level DIII’s such as Colby College, Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham and Randolph Macon continue to pursue the the John Carroll standout. Clark brings size and presence around the rim at both ends, dependable hands, and a skill set that could pay dividends if he’s put into a good player development program at the college level.

Clark was the missing piece for the Patriots heading into last season and did a nice job of quickly asserting himself as the paint presence they needed. Clark doubled down on his worth during the June scholastic live period as he not only became more comfortable with his teammates and learning how to pick his spots, but also by improving his body as he’s shown to put on some muscle that assists in finishing through contact or battling for boards. Clark brings a high motor, good instincts as a rim runner/roller and is showing to be a more capable threat in creating for himself on 1-on-1 scenarios in the paint.

-Clark enjoyed two productive weekends with his HS team in the scholastic live period and was rewarded with his first Division 1 offer from American University. The high-academic (3.5) prospect flashed every thing that college coaches are looking for in a big: positional size, rebounding ability, consistent play-finishing around the basket, and some shot-blocking chops. His physical brand of basketball really sets the tone for a John Carroll team that needs his interior presence at both ends of the floor. Love his attitude and enthusiasm, he takes on whatever takes the coaching staff assigns to him and plays his role to perfection.

-Clark turned in the most efficient and productive performance of the night by starring in his role. Clark made himself available time and time again around the rim and did a great job of securing a few tough catches in traffic before flushing it through the rim with two hands. He’s doing a great job of keeping the ball high to avoid turnovers and went right up to score before the defense could react in time. The handle has improved but he only uses it to attack the rim in straight line drives or by clearing the ball out after snagging an offensive rebound to run a DHO with one of his guards.
