About Owen

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a well-rounded player. My greatest strength is my shooting. I can shoot the ball from beyond the NBA line with consistency. Other strengths include my ball handling, rebounding, and defensive positioning. I have a high basketball IQ and skill level, which has allowed me to excel in many areas.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a strong leader and a hard worker. I am also a very empathic and understanding person, which has helped me be a good teammate. I have had a very strong, improvement-centered mentality since I was 10-years-old, and I don't plan on changing that. Confidence with a good blend of humility has always been my focus.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

The main club that I am a part of is my high school youth group. My Catholic faith has always been important to me, and it has taught me many lessons about being a good person and a leader among my peers. I have received academic awards in a variety of subjects, including: student of the month in math, science, religion, spanish, band, and social studies; high honor roll; and spelling bee champion

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

In almost every area of my life, I have had a leadership role. I was a captain on my varsity team starting my sophomore year. When I was in band, I was a part of band leadership. My middle school track and football coaches trusted me and a few others to lead stretches and small groups. I am also a teen leader at church, which gives me a combination of the three skills/qualities listed above.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I would say my main challenge so far in my life has been my battle with depression. It mainly stems from perfectionism and high expectations from others. However, I have learned how to deal with it through strong role models and mentors in my life, including my family, friends, and religious leaders. My mental game is something that I am always looking to improve, on and off the court.

What type of college are you looking for?

My main goals I'm looking for in a college are a sports management major, with a specialization or minor in coaching, and a winning basketball program that I can be a part of! I am ready to take any role on the team that I need. I don't have a preference on college size or location. My dream job is a college or professional coach, so I want to gain experience by studying and playing at my school.
