The first month of the season has come and gone and teams are finding a rhythm. There have been teams that have lived up to the preseason hype, and some teams that have struggled early on to find their footing. Here is the Volume 1 of the Southwest Indiana Team Power Rankings:

Honorable Mention: Evansville Memorial | Evansville Reitz | Forest Park | Jasper | Loogootee | Northeast Dubois |

10. Mater Dei Wildcats (4-2)

A blend of veteran experience with high end underclassmen talent led by 6'5” Sophomore Wing [player_tooltip player_id='2408517' first='Cole' last='Breeden']. Only losses are in conference play to 4A foes. As the season goes on and the young talent gains varsity experience, Mater Dei will be a player in the 2A Tournament

9. Linton-Stockton Miners (7-3)

The defending 2A Regional Champions started off hot with a big win over Heritage Hills on a neutral site led by the Senior Trio of point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1561038' first='Jackson' last='Miller'], shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1560986' first='Conner' last='Daily'], and Forward [player_tooltip player_id='1560992' first='Paul' last='Oliver']. The maturation from Sophomore Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2560373' first='Jake' last='Rose'] throughout the season can only mean good things for the Miners. Linton is lower than what many people would expect due to losing three of their last five games.

8. Barr-Reeve Vikings (7-0)

Of the Vikings seven wins on the year, five have been in blowout fashion and the other win was by nine points over Vincennes Lincoln. Led in scoring by Sophomore Guard [player_tooltip player_id='3148411' first='Jaylon' last='Graber'] at 17 points per game shooting 66% from the floor. Junior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='3045017' first='Kierson' last='Lengacher'] and Sophomore Wing/Forward [player_tooltip player_id='2797665' first='Braxton' last='Neidigh'] are also in doubles figures at 12.3 points and 10 points respectfully. With only three seniors on the roster, expect Barr-Reeve to be a mainstay in the power rankings.

7. Bloomfield Cardinals (8-2)

The Cardinals fresh off a 5th Place finish at the Wabash Valley Classic, Bloomfield is arguably the top team in all of 1A South Basketball in the state with Barr-Reeve, Hauser, and Liberty Christian. Led by Indiana Junior All-Star [player_tooltip player_id='1560962' first='Blake' last='Neill'] averaging a double-double at 30 points and 11 rebounds per game. Although the loss to 1-4 Bedford North Lawrence doesn't look good on the resumé, when you have the best talent on the floor, you have a chance to win any game.

6. Evansville Bosse Bulldogs (2-2)

If I was a betting man, I would bet a lot of many that the Bulldogs end the season much higher on this ranking. Evansville Bosse has played one game with Memphis Whitehaven transfer Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1760994' first='Dorion' last='Bowen']. The dynamic senior guard makes everyone better with not just his scoring, but his playmaking ability. Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2172596' first='Marrius' last='Harris'] is also one of the top guards in the area that will benefit mightily from the addition. It's hard to judge the Bulldogs early in the season playing shorthanded, but the talent speaks for itself on the roster.

5. Boonville Pioneers (9-1)

The Boonville Pioneers were expected to be improved this season with only losing one senior from last season and a strong core of underclassmen with experience. The Pioneers started the season with eight straight wins including a 53-45 victory over Evansville Bosse on December 5th. The Junior Trio of [player_tooltip player_id='2140326' first='Bradyn' last='Egli'], [player_tooltip player_id='2140389' first='Jaxon' last='McKain'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2622245' first='Cash' last='Willis'] have all had great starts to the season complimenting each others games to maximize their teams potential.

4. Heritage Hills Patriots (8-3)

It's been a really good to start to the Josh Wetzel Era at Heritage Hills. The Patriots hold two of the best wins of any teams in the area with a road win over Evansville Memorial and a home win over Boonville. The trio of Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1560979' first='Peyton' last='Gray'], Senior Wing [player_tooltip player_id='1560951' first='Jake' last='Prior'], and Junior Forward [player_tooltip player_id='2140443' first='Tait' last='Wetzel'] have all had big time performances propelling Heritage Hills to a successful start to the season.

3. Princeton Tigers (7-2)

The defending 3A Regional Champions started the season 1-1 before rattling off six straight victories. Replacing three starters from last years team with two incoming transfers, it took time for the Tigers to gel. They go up to Brownsburg for the Sneakers For Santa event and control from start to finish over a good Charlestown team for their best win of the season. Indiana Junior All-Star [player_tooltip player_id='1560964' first='Edwin' last='Holmes'] along with Decatur Central transfer sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='2539928' first='Quintyn' last='Voltz'] have been outstanding in the games I've seen them play.

2. Gibson Southern Titans (6-2)

The uber-talented and experienced Titans roster that goes a legit nine deep. Senior Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2978386' first='Cam' last='Truxal'] runs the show while the Junior Duo of [player_tooltip player_id='2140411' first='Kolton' last='Schmitt'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2891750' first='Reece' last='Runyan'] lead the Titans in scoring combining for 28 points per game. The Titans got a big win over Gibson County Rival Princeton to propel them to this #2 spot.

1. Evansville North Huskies (6-0)

The Huskies are off to an undefeated start after defeating three teams in this ranking + two more in the honorable mention slot. This is a talented senior class that Huskie Nation has been looking forward to led by 6'6” Wing/Forward [player_tooltip player_id='1561076' first='Bryson' last='Chapman'] averaging 17 points per game. The Huskies take their undefeated record up to the Fishers Holiday Tournament on January 2nd where they face off against their toughest competition yet in Chesterton.
