In Michigan, the bracketed event produced plenty of next level competition with the stands dotted by college coaches. Following are the 17U All Tournament teams from the three days of action.

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1805260' first='James' last='Martin'] 6-3 2026 Muskegon Simply put— Martin was on one all weekend for Muskegon Heat. Began the weekend with 41 point outing and didn't really let up. Seemingly did it in every possible way. Showed his usual explosiveness at the rim. However also showed an improved touch on his outside shot. Ball handling also showed progress. As he played a lot of point guard on the weekend. What a shoe circuit player should look like it. Was simply on a different level athletically. Fierce competitor who played dogged defense. Was the leader of a unit basically consisting of his regular season teammates to an appearance in the championship game. Looks poised for a huge senior year as one of the top prospects in Michigan's 2026 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2858649' first='Roman' last='Opsommer'] 6-6 2026 HEA Firebirds Never heard of the HEA Firebirds you say? Opsommer is a very talented player going the untraditional route of the homeschool basketball association. Whatever biases you might have, Opsommer showed this weekend that he can play in any league. Won the championship with his balanced Moneyball East squad. Has athletic frame that he won't need to add much strength or weight to. Moves well for size and showed a soft touch at the rim. Was also a competent three point shooter. I don't normally scout homeschool basketball leagues. With teammate and fellow 6-6 post [player_tooltip player_id='2873390' first='Brady' last='Markowicz'], that might change in the coming year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588191' first='Braylon' last='Frantz'] 6-1 2026 St Clair In only his second tournament with the Michigan Ballers. Frantz showed the malleability of his game and appeared comfortable in new surroundings. Frantz is point guard who plays with uncommon strength. Gets to the basket with ease. Plays off two feet with an extreme level of bounce. Really stood out in the Friday night opener. Took over late in the clutch and put up 22 much needed points. Has long been one of my favorite prospects in the 2026 class. I haven't seen anything yet to move off that point.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588235' first='Brieland' last='Watkins'] 6-3 Grand Rapids Catholic Central Coming off a nice junior season. Watkins has kept up that momentum into the spring. At 6-3, has been a somewhat positional-less player in the past. Doing whatever his team needs for a victory. Approaching his final season, he appears to be settling into to physically advanced two guard role. Battled well with Martin (see above) in a highly charged and competitive semifinal. Put up 17 points in the loss with plenty high leverage defense on Martin.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588171' first='Owen' last='Ribel'] 6-2 Traverse City Central Ribel led his Northern Michigan based HB Elite squac to an appearance in the semifinals. A smooth and effortless scorer. Scores at all three levels. Plays with a strength you would not expect from his slender frame. Gets to spots easily with point guard-esque ball handling ability. High arching shot that is difficult to block. Finished with 22 points in the semifinal loss to eventual champion Moneyball East.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2687840' first='Carter' last='Canfield'] 6-0 2027 Bloomfield Hills While Opsommer was manning the post. Canfield was the steady floor general for Moneyball East. Got his team into its sets efficiently and fed their litany of talented big men (see above) As they faced a large and athletic Muskegon Heat unit in the championship. Adjusted his game accordingly. Came alive offensively and sought out his own shot more as Muskegon packed in on the bigs. Finished with a team high 18 points in the championship. Oh yeah… did I mention he did this while playing up a grade level? Coaches son from a basketball family (siblings play at the next level) Canfield seems to be headed towards a similar trajectory.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218026' first='Kyren' last='Noble'] 6-6 2026 Muskegon Along with his teammate Martin. Noble used his athleticism in a major way throughout the weekend. Lived above the rim and was a major factor both on the block and out in transition. Has thick upper body and doesn't mind contact. In the course of conservation with a coach. This coach mentioned he was excited to see how Muskegon looked this year after graduating so much size. On cue, Noble streaked through for another emphatic finish. The coach shrugged and said “looks like the Big Reds still have some size” Noble looks ready for a big year and larger role as a senior.

[player_tooltip player_id='2410383' first='Brayden' last='Favors'] 6-4 2026 Niles The versatile Southwest Michigan forward continued his strong spring play. With his Team Soil squad down two posts, moved his game to the block. With his wide physical frame, had no issue doing so. In his teams closing loss of the weekend. Almost willed squad to win after falling into a second half hole. In that contest against a squad with a big frontline. He seamlessly moved out to the perimeter. Hitting a handful of threes in the process.

[player_tooltip player_id='2734537' first='Martez' last='Davis'] 5-8 2026 Detroit Loyola Diminutive Detroit point guard continued his strong play on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Led his Motor City Dragons squad to. 3-1 record on the weekend. Has a pretty small frame to go along with a lack of ideal height. But makes up for it with heart and guile. Played well with bigs that he will team with in the regular season. Should lead Loyola into being one of the top Division III squads in the state next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601802' first='Georyeon' last='Cannon'] 6-3 2026 Grand Blanc Was able to catch this player often when he was younger. Then for whatever reason kind of fell off my radar (that's a me issue) Playing with Shoebox Elite, jumped back up in big way. I was impressed with the playmaking ability. If he can carry that over to regular season, could develop into a point guard with uncommon size. Part of strong Grand Blanc contingent on multiple teams. The Bobcats will feature a deep and talented rotation next season. Cannon could have big campaign as the elder statesman.
