Cook has had a nice stretch for Boo Williams, establishing himself as a quality utility forward for the group. Cook has been rebounding the ball at an elite level and continued that on Wednesday with a game-high 10 rebounds. A quality decision maker and passer, Cook excelled at making reads out of the short roll and found shooters and cutters with timely passes. The big swing skill for Cook will be how well he scores the basketball, if he can improve his perimeter shooting or explosiveness to score at the rim over rim protectors, he could become one of the more intriguing Swiss Army knife wings in the class.
Anyone wondering who the Junior with the highest upside in Kentucky is, look no further than Jordan “Boogie” Cook. Boogie checks every box as a prospect and has elite level athleticism to go with a legitimately big frame. Cook will frustrate you sometimes because his motor is not always elite but when he decides to be the best player on the court, he is. If Cook can reach his ceiling, we will be talking about him as an NBA player in the future.
-Cook stood out in a matchup with The Family as an athletic W/F tweener that can really affect the game with his motor and frame on the glass. Cook showed the physicality to outrebound double teams around the rim and the IQ to position himself to snag long rebounds in the corners or elbows and immediately get to the rim to score in 2 dribbles or less. Loved his energy and commmunication as a versatile defender for Boo that guarded 3-5 very effectively while sliding on shows in the PnR on guards. His combination of second jump quickness and pivot moves around the rim allowed him to score at will in the key.
While he didn’t play the entire weekend, Cook was a Friday standout as his defense activity and off ball movement allowed him to make a big two-way impact for his team. Cook was dangerous when he was moving without the ball with a purpose and generated some easy looks for himself. Defensively, Cook is able to defend multiple positions and switch onto ball handlers and defend the post. For Cook, the biggest key for him will be to make shots on the perimeter as he got a handful of clean looks from 3-point range or mid-range and wasn’t able to convert. I really like how he’s transitioned into doing a lot of the dirty work that doesn’t show up on the box score but he will reach his full potential by finding ways to space the floor for his team.
Boogie has a combination of intangibles that make him one of the most intriguing prospects in the state, let alone the nation. After missing the first portion of last season while awaiting eligibility clearance, he settled back in with haste at CAL to remind the state just how valuable his presence is. In unprecedented fashion, all four of Boogie’s offers have not only come from the D1 level but from high-major, Power Four programs as well. The early attention he’s grabbed from the likes of Blue Bloods and other prestigious institutions speaks to his elite long-term potential. He’ll join a select few of Kentuckiana athletes at Nike’s Elite 100 camp next month and currently ranks as the #24 SF in the country in the 2028 class per ESPN.
Boo Williams went 2-1 on the weekend and Cook made some nice plays as a defender and rebounder for his group. The wing forward crashed the glass well on both ends and has the grab and go ability to start the fast break after securing the rebound. Cook blocked a shot as a help-side rim protector early in the game I caught and did a really good job getting to the foul line as well. Cook also threw a handful of potential assists that weren’t converted by his teammates, but his passing was much better than his assist numbers would suggest. For Cook, making more shots on the perimeter and at the rim should be the key as he did a lot of complimentary stuff well this weekend for a winning team.
Cook moves back up into the top 3 in the class and still has the most long term potential of anyone in the state, in my opinion. Boogie had a strange year after transferring to Ballard and then back to CAL but ended up with a really solid Sophomore campaign and is starting to get some momentum back in his recruitment.
Cook showed why he’s regarded as one of the top wings in the Midwest from the class of 2028. Making a big defensive impact, Cook jumped a couple passing lanes and blocked a 3-pointer. I liked that Cook was using his length and athleticism to make impact plays on the defensive end of the court. Offensively, Cook struggled early to make shots from the perimeter and had a couple early turnovers, but found his rhythm as the game continued with a 18-footer to end the first quarter, a top of the key 3-pointer and a couple of buckets in the paint Vs a zone defense. I want to see Cook get stronger with the ball in his hands and show confidence in the triple threat as an attacker. The potential is all there for Cook to be regarded as one of the top wings in the country for his grade if he continues to develop the offensive side of the court.
Cook has had to wait half his season after transferring from CAL to Ballard then back to CAL before getting eligible over the weekend. Now that he’s back on the court, Boogie will need to prove the naysayers wrong by playing with a strong motor at all times and not floating out to the three point line too often. He still has the athleticism and measurables to be one of the best in this class and a national recruit. Even more than he already is.
Boogie already holds multiple Power 5 offers and has the potential to be an elite recruit and future pro. When his motor is running, there are not many better prospects in the state than Cook. Long term, Boogie could end up an elite prospect in America or could settle in at the mid major D1 level. It all depends on how hard he plays on a game by game basis.
