Gavin is a late bloomer whose stock is trending up big time heading into his Junior season. A legit big who joins Boogie Cook Boogie Cook 6'7" | SF Christian Academy of Louisville | 2028 State #94 Nation KY and Myles Howard Myles Howard 6'3" | PG/SG Christian Academy of Louisville | 2028 State KY to make a big time Junior class at CAL, Sheich gives them an anchor in the middle. Gavin is long and bouncy enough that he offers good rim protection and can score around the bucket. If you’re looking for a prospect whose stock could take off in the next year, Scheich would be a good player to take a look at.

I liked what Scheich brought to the table as a rim protector for Kentucky Basketball Club 16 U as he altered a bunch of shots at the rim. Scheich did a nice job of contesting without fouling a majority of the time and even blocking a handful of shots. Scheich also drew a handful of fouls in the paint after he caught the ball or was going up at the rim. His touch could also improve and he’d be able to find it easier to score in the paint off these catches, Scheich just needs more practice reps against other players with size and length. We first saw Scheich play at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman showcase two years ago when he was an incoming freshman at Borden High School. Now, the 6’8″ rising junior is a standout forward/center for Christian Academy of Louisville. The tools and traits he showed a couple of years ago have really started to pan out now. He was explosive out of the dunker’s spot, showcased the ability to stretch the floor making a three-pointer on the wing, and rebounded the ball well on both ends of the floor. Very intriguing prospect that continues to improve.

One of the more intriguing big man prospects that I saw today at the IU Team Camp was 6’8” 2028 Forward Gavin Scheich. A long and athletic forward that showed that he can impact the game in both ends of the floor with his size and length. Runs the floor extremely well and makes himself available. Has good hands and is quick into his move around the basket. Didn’t show it in the game today but have seen in the past that can he step out and knock down catch and shoot 3’s.

Scheich has one of the few things you can’t teach on the basketball floor and that is size. A versatile big man, Scheich plays above the rim with sneaky bounce and can be a guy that can stretch the floor from behind the arc. There is a good chance is one of the top breakout bigs this summer.

He’s a mobile big that is a fluid athlete that is a solid rim protector on the defensive end. Does a really good job playing vertical and not picking up cheap fouls. Offensively he has shown the ability to play all over the floor. Solid perimeter shooter off the catch. Has shown he can play out of the mid post and make a move off the dribble. Really good finisher as a roll man that is looking to finish above the rim any chance he gets.

Athletic rim running big man that put on a show playing above the rim. Long and lanky frame that was a load on the defensive end with his shot blocking ability and rebounding. On the offensive end, he ran the floor with a purpose. Did a good job sealing his man and posting hard. Was excellent in the dunkers spot with his timing on his cuts that made him a beneficiary of some good looks for dunks.

One of the top standouts at the Freshman Showcase a year ago, this 6’8″ forward is overflowing with long term potential. Scheich will help give Floyd Central a very long and athletic front court this coming season.

Scheich was one of the standouts at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase last fall. The 6’8″ forward from Borden High School did a little bit of everything. He stretched the floor beyond the arc for catch-and-shoot three-point shots, drove and dunked it, and protected the rim defensively. We never saw Borden play in person, but he put up 5.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and just over 2 blocks per game as a freshman. However, we have not tracked him down yet through the spring. It would be nice to evaluate him against some high-level competition.
