We are not 100% that Montez will make the event, but if he does, Gay has to be at the top of the list for players to watch. He currently has 6 Division 1 offers with many more programs interested. Montez scores inside/out and has a college-ready body. If this prospect is on the court, all eyes should be on the #2 ranked prospect in Kentucky.

Montez’s 17U Griffin squad completed their first weekend of Spring hoops at Spooky Nook and left undefeated. Although they found much success on the weekend, they were battle tested in doing so. Griffin found themselves down by double digits early versus another UA Rise team, but they proved to be up to the challenge. Several players stood out down the stretch, but Montez knocked down the most valuable shots of the game when it mattered most in overtime. His pull up 3pt field goal off the dribble rattled in to start the post-regulation play, signifying the real work he’s put into becoming a legit threat from long distance. A few moments later his drive through the lane sealed the ball game.

Montez drops a spot to number 2 overall but only because Langhi had such a strong season. Gay has great positional size as a wing and is one of the better athletes in the state. Montez shot an impressive 58% from the field and could have been among the state leaders in dunks per game. With his skill set and size, Gay projects as a MM+ or HM shooting guard.

A week removed from winning a state championship, Montez looks like he’s ready to level up to being a high major recruit. After shooting 36% from three this season, Gay is solidifying his future as a 3 and D wing who should thrive in the “modern basketball” landscape. Gay holds several MM D1 offers and he could make the jump to a Top 150 player this summer.

The third quarter that George Rogers Clark outscored Johnson Central 27-9 swung the game, as Johnson Central actually outscored GRC by three points in the other three quarters. Gay was crucial in that quarter with a couple of putback layups and knocking down both of his 3-pointers that quarter. The second of Gay’s 3-pointers came just before the third quarter buzzer. George Rogers Clark only shot 4/15 from 3-point range so Gay knocking down two of his three attempts was crucial. One of two players on GRC with double-doubles, the physicality edge GRC played with was the difference.

Montez is ranked as the number one junior in the state of Kentucky for a reason. He is averaging 17.2 PPG. He is shooting over 57% from the floor. Montez is an athletic defender, can guard 1-5, and put pressure on whoever he is guarding. Montez will be able to help a collegiate program from day 1!

The top prospect on George Rogers Clark, Gay made a big impact on both ends of the floor, scoring off cuts, converting a four point play and blocking a couple of shots. George Rogers Clark runs great actions to get Gay easy looks as he scored off a nice off ball screen look to the rim and a couple backdoor cuts. If George Rogers Clark is going to leave Rupp with the ultimate hardware, they’ll need Gay and play at a high level.

provided everything for the Cardinals in the semifinals, using his physicality and athleticism to his advantage throughout the game. He consistently battled into the paint and scored through contact, setting the tone early by scoring the team’s final 10 points of the first quarter to help build a 17-9 lead. Gay finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, went 2-of-4 from long range, and 4-of-6 from the free throw line, while adding three rebounds and making an impact defensively.

One of the top players in Kentucky, Gay was productive at both ends of the court in a big rivalry game victory over Montgomery County. Keeping the game simple, most of Gay’s buckets required zero dribbles to finish. Gay scored off a BLOB, a catch and shoot 3-pointer, a dunk and a layup from the dunker spot. Gay’s athleticism was on full display in transition as a monster two-hand slam off a steal. I also liked a couple drive and kickouts Gay made throughout the game, playing under control on the offensive end. Expect Gay to add to his Division I offer list this summer.

Montez remains in the top spot in this update and is having a really strong start to his Junior season at GRC. Averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds per game, Gay is among the most college ready athletes in the state, even though he’s just a Junior. He’s shooting the three at 37% this year and making two per game. If he can get to the free throw line more often, his game will go up another level.
