Thursday was the best game I’ve ever seen Evans play, especially in the first half. He was assertive in the paint scoring off rolls to the paint, one dribble finishes, dunker spot shots and putbacks. With his size and athleticism, he has the ability to score often in the paint and on Thursday he was doing just that against an undersized frontcourt. His most impressive move of the game was a lefty hook shot over his right shoulder. If Evans can consistently bring this level of focus and production on the offensive end, he’ll start to regain his stock that made him a quite intriguing prospect earlier in his high school career.
Miller will be at Covington Catholic for his senior season and impressed for Midwest Basketball Club 17 U 3SSB this weekend. Another long and athletic power forward, Miller had a one dribble lefty reverse, had a dunk under the hoop off a pivot, another dunk where he got off quickly and effortlessly off the ground. On the pick and roll he had a lefty and-1 finish at the rim. Still a raw offensive prospect, Miller has some development with his hands and post moves, but his size and athleticism has low to mid major programs very interested right now.
Phenom United had a dominant showing on Friday and it was the best I’ve ever seen Mabe play. He was finishing at the rim with either hand at the half-court. Mabe also got an easy layup off a BLOB play that got him wide open. Looking the part physically, Mabe moves his feet well for his size. A scholarship prospect at some level, I’ll be curious to see how Mabe looks during the high school season with more of a go to scoring focus instead of the low usage role he plays on the 3SSB circuit.

Indiana Elite 15 U have made a deep run and it’s been mostly thanks to a pair of Kentucky prospects in Spurlock and another player to be mentioned later in this article. Spurlock is a big-time shooter and his 3-pointer where he ran off a screen and quickly got his feet set to launch from 3 showed just how elite he is with that skill. Defensively, Spurlock jumped passing lanes and got transition opportunities off those steals. Biggest question for Spurlock will be how he develops as an athlete and can create space as he matures.

Jackson was big time in Indiana Elite’s tournament run so far with some big-time games. Making an impact on both ends, Jackson can score in a variety of ways. A bigger bodied wing, Jackson can post up smaller guard defenders and just overpower them in the paint. As a shooter, Jackson hit a pull-up transition 3-pointer and a two dribble fallaway jumper. Late in the game against Midwest Basketball Club, Jackson took over with a clutch wing 3-pointer to break a tie and then got his team an extra possession off a missed free throw by tipping it out on the opponents. In transition, Jackson had another late bucket where he drove to the rim and finished. Really impressed by him this weekend.
