These guys have had promising spring seasons and should continue to trend up through the summer and into the winter season. Here are a few names to watch that could be in store for big growth over the next year.
Heppner came on to be a key guy for Lynden last season and has continued to show an expanded game with the skill to compliment his 6-foot-6 frame. He’s solid with the ball, whether that’s working around the hoop or putting the ball on the floor for a couple dribbles, and he makes strong moves inside. The biggest area of growth has been his consistency from 3-point, as he’s not just a reliable shooter out there, but someone you search for behind the arc.
Now standing 6-foot-8, Marrs has been taking advantage of the spring season to show a really complete game on both sides of the floor. He moves his feet well, has decent lateral quickness, and plays solid defensively. On the offensive end, he’s a threat inside and out, with strong moves in the paint and a jumper that looks good out to three. He’s got a lot of potential and should be a big riser over the next year.
Wells is a big guard who’s added a lot to his game over the course of the last year. Judging by the progress he’s made as a perimeter threat, I fully expect him to have a big season at Freeman this winter. He’s a guy who can use his size both offensively and defensively in the paint and has developed into a reliable 3-point shooter who can put it on the floor and make things happen at the rim.
The Gonzaga Prep point guard has shown great improvement over the last year. He shoots the three-ball extremely well now, has quick hands to make plays on defense, and relies on great IQ and reactions to make plays with the pass. He’s already demonstrated his competitive spirit in past years, but now he’s taken that next step and should be a big contributor next season.
Dawson plays such a steady and reliable role at both Eastside Catholic and Elite Prep. He has a great handle on the rock, can create action going to the hoop and limit turnovers in the process, and shows good strength finishing the play himself. He can defend the ball and looks like a player that just makes the right plays out there.
Hurskin is an amazing athlete who can get his hands all over the game, allowing him to contribute even when he isn’t shooting well or lacking in another area. He’s a versatile defender, can penetrate with good strength and quickness, and is an impressive rebounder on both ends. He’s shown he can hit the outside shot too and as he continues to improve with the jump shot, he’ll keep rising the ranks.
Metke’s a solid wing player who looks a lot more intriguing since growing from 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4. He has long arms, can hit jump shots off the dribble from mid-range and 3-point, and does a great job working on the glass with the added ability to get the ball and go. There’s a lot more potential waiting to be unleashed and he could develop into a really solid two-way wing over the next year.
Highlights
Weir is one of the most interesting prospects in the 2025 class. He’s a big kid with plenty of strength to work inside and out of the post, but also has the ball skills, handle and shooting to be a factor making plays from the perimeter. As he continues to get more time on the floor for Bonney Lake, he should start to look for his spots more and continue to ramp up the aggression and motor. He’s definitely a guy to watch further down the rankings that has potential to go much higher.
