About Layne
Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Weir has been an active shot-blocker at the rim and has some good burst and bounce to attack shots. He can stretch the floor at times but is also strong on the blocks and has the mobility to run the floor and get involved in transition.

A big-bodied forward with the strength at 6-foot-7 to burrow through defenders inside, yet the nimble feet and handle to weave through traffic to the hoop. He’s got a smooth stroke out to 3 and excels in the midrange and with turnarounds from the blocks. Has real potential as a two-way threat and already shows the ability to send shots back and get his hands out to steal passes inside. A real prospect to watch who continues to solidify his stock as one of the more versatile forwards in his class.

proved to be a physical competitive defensive anchor with a low post presence and skills that extended beyond shot-blocking. His ability to defend the pick-and-roll, disrupt passing lanes, and provide solid interior defense made him a consistent game-changer. At 6’7” Weir utilized his length to his advantage in nearly every aspect of the game.

Weir is one of the most interesting prospects in the 2025 class. He’s a big kid with plenty of strength to work inside and out of the post, but also has the ball skills, handle and shooting to be a factor making plays from the perimeter. As he continues to get more time on the floor for Bonney Lake, he should start to look for his spots more and continue to ramp up the aggression and motor. He’s definitely a guy to watch further down the rankings that has potential to go much higher.

Layne is in line for a much bigger role next year with Bonney Lake. He has great size standing at 6’6″ and uses his body very well on the court. He is strong down low when in the paint but is also able to step outside and hit the 3 efficiently. This AAU season will really help Weir as he looks to make his game more well rounded, which I think he will be able to do.
