Continue ReadingA lightning-quick guard who changes directions in the blink of an eye, Henderson is a high-level scorer who uses his tight handle, quick first step, and great feel to blow by defenders and get to the rim for creative finishes. He’s also a talented shooter with unlimited range, and a really good passer who sees the floor extremely well. He’s coming off a great summer with Nebraska Supreme in which he showed that he can really protect the rock and get his teammates involved, and it helped him land a handful of Division I offers before committing to play at Montana. He averaged 22.6 points and 3.7 assists as a junior.
A perfect complement to Henderson, Vos is a big, physical wing who averaged 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds on 45-37-82 shooting splits as a junior. He has a quick trigger on his jumper, moves well without the ball, and does a great job taking smaller defenders onto the block where he can score at will. He has committed to play college ball at NAIA Mid-America Nazarene.
Weisskopf has already committed to play football at Iowa, and many of the same attributes that make him a standout football player lead to a ton of success as a hooper. He’s a great athlete with a physical frame that he uses to power through contact for finishes around the rim, as well as outleap opposing players for rebounds. He also has deft touch, showing a smooth stroke from the arc last season, knocking down 42.4% of his 3-point attempts en route to 15.3 points a game on 56-42-73 splits. He has a really good feel for the game and would probably be a prospect that Division II schools would be drooling over if he committed to playing basketball.
Laube established himself as a high-level shooter early in his high school career, then had a huge summer with the Barnstormers between his sophomore and junior years, improving his all-around scoring ability, athleticism, and shot creation. The result was a huge junior season, averaging 20.0 points on 51-41-78 splits and leading the Wolves to the state tournament. He had another strong summer this year and committed to play his college ball at Augustana (SD). A quick-twitch athlete who shoots it extremely well off the dribble, Laube has a great feel and understanding of the game and does a great job subtly using his off-ball arm to create that tiny bit of space he needs to get his shot off.
Collison has a tremendous feel for the game and is a gifted natural scorer on the wing. A 6-4 player who can handle it, get others involved, create his own shot, and shoot it at an extremely high level off the catch, he averaged 18.3 points on 55-45-71 shooting as a junior. He has a knack for knowing when he needs to take over, and does a great job letting his teammates get involved early on. He’s a high IQ player who really understands the game on both ends of the floor.
Highlights
Yamilkoski was one of the most impressive players I saw during the summer, routinely putting up strong all-around games with Martin Brothers. An athletic 6-4 wing who can score from all three levels in the blink of an eye, he’s really improved over the last 12 months as a playmaker and defender. His ability to move his feet and defend multiple positions on the perimeter will make him a valuable prospect moving forward when coupled with his shooting and ability to get to the bucket. He averaged 15.2 points and 5.3 rebounds as a junior with 45-38-79 splits.
A high IQ guard with a tremendous feel and understanding of the game, Bean does a great job changing speeds and using his big, physical frame to bully smaller defenders on the perimeter. He has really good hands and quick feet on the defensive end and does a great job sitting in his stance. He’s a strong three-level scorer who is willing to take smaller defenders onto the block for buckets, and he’s a smooth shooter from deep. He averaged 13.3 points and 3.3 assists as a sophomore and figures to be one of the best players on a team that has a real chance to win the 3A title this year.
Highlights
Anyone who watched Winterset’s quarterfinal win over Marion could see that Dinkla is one of the best competitors in the state, and he’ll have the reins of the Huskies this season all to himself. A scrappy lead guard who led 3A in total assists and ranked second in steals, he loves to attack the rim and finish through contact routinely. He’s tough, defensive-minded, and loves to get others involved. Sounds like a winning basketball player to me.
Highlights
Noll had some explosive scoring games during the summer with Martin Brothers and could be a candidate to lead 3A in scoring this year. A springy 6-6 wing with great length that he uses to his advantage on the defensive end, he’s a really good perimeter shooter who is capable of getting scorching hot and carrying his team. He has a quick release and extended range both off the dribble and the catch, and he has really tightened up his handle over the last 12 months, allowing him to become a deadly three-level scorer who can create his own shots.
Faley has committed to throw for Iowa in track and field, but he’s also a really good basketball player who uses his size and strength well on the glass and as an interior scorer. He averaged 16.5 points and 7.3 rebounds a game as a junior for the Golden Eagles on 60% shooting and 82.6% from the free-throw line. He’s added a little bit of range and a face-up game to his arsenal over the last year-and-a-half, which when paired with his footwork and touch around the rim, makes him a strong all-around scoring threat for Wahlert.
