The Expo: Third Team

Players were split up into different groups to compete in drill work, 3 on 3 competition, and live 5 on 5 play. Our scouts getting a chance to see over 100 prospects compete in these different settings allowed for a very holistic viewing of the talents that they bring to the floor on an individual basis. Rogers displayed a pretty lethal double crossover move to get past his matchup throughout the day and finish with the inside hand lay at the rim, he knocked down a stop n pop 3 in transition, and took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast on several occasions-- showing his speed in the open floor. Love the pace that he plays with in transition and coming off of ball screens as he used a stutter step to set up live dribble passes or crossovers to get to his spots in the halfcourt. Moody has the confidence and strength to get a good seal on smaller defenders to score out of the low post, turns down contested threes to hit pull-up twos off the bounce, and is seeing the floor better as a passer in the halfcourt. His ability to play through contact around the rim blends well with a nice set of footwork to maneuver around the defense and score in traffic in the paint. Collins used a quick set of hands to rip his matchup at halfcourt several times, possesses a really smooth change of gears in the halfcourt to get downhill in a hurry with or without a ball screen, had the IQ to turn the corner and get the ball up on the glass to draw the goaltending at a key point late in one of the 5 on 5 games, had a great closeout from the paint to block a corner 3, and stayed down on the spin move to punch a layup attempt later in the same game. Collins understands defensive help rotations well and switches onto perimeter players well after forcing his matchup to give up the ball on drives to the rim. Wood always puts a ton of pressure on the defense to stay in front of him without using their hands as he makes quick, decisive line drives to the rim. As the game continues to slow down for him in the halfcourt, he is consistently connecting on the obvious reads (hitting the drop big from the middle of the floor after drawing the helper, throwing pocket passes in middle PnR reads) but is also using his pivot to throw crack-back dimes or hook passes to get his shooters involved each trip down the floor. I expect his recruitment to experience a nice jolt as one of the new faces in a productive offseason rebuild for Poly, should be in line for a huge scoring and play-making role for a good young group of guys. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
