Another player on this team who received post-event honors, Magnon was voted to Second Team largely due to his relentless competitive motor that was on display during the 5v5 portion. He’ll look to fill a similar role with similar production for Magruder this season as a versatile defensive piece, a high-volume finisher at the rim and an energetic sparkplug.

It was a productive day for Magnon as we had predicted comin into the event and it all stems with his relentless motor. He looks to be nearing 6-foot-5 and showed off some improvement with his ability to attack his defender out of face-ups or catches along the perimeter with space to operate. The southpaw consistently got downhill to his right hand before spinning back to his left where he finished through contact. Magnon brings an infectious energy to the floor that can quickly flow through his teammates. As his confidence emerged, so did others and he challenged them to meet his energy and aggression on the glass, with individual defense and making hustle plays to help seal victories.

Magnon is another name I was pleased to see sign up because of how hard he plays anytime he takes the floor. Last season for Magruder it was his relentless motor on the glass, cutting without the ball and defending multiple positions that stood out to me most. I’d expect much of the same in this sort of setting, but also the chance to show some growth in his game in face-ups or getting to his spots off the bounce. The good thing with players like Magnon is even if his jumper isn’t falling, the production and energy will remain consistent.

Magnon got off to a quick start in this one and was a nice generator of energy for Magruder. He brings nice size and length to their frontcourt, but it was his overall activity and motor that allowed him to gather 50/50s and be in the right spot and the right time for dump-offs at the basket. What I like about Magnon was although the game was out of reach in the fourth quarter, it didn’t deter his overall energy and presence in the paint. Not only was he beating guys for position inside for offensive boards, but also made the most out of a few opportunities in face-ups where he attacked with quick dribbles into spin moves, covering ground and finishing through harm. His overall skillset still needs polish, but that’s expected in a sophomore. With the mentality and motor he brings, there are certainly strong foundational pieces to build with here.
