The action at the Prep Hoops Expo in Aurora brought out some of the top talent across the state. The 2027 class, in particular, displayed remarkable depth, showing off refined skill sets, defensive intensity, and major upside heading into the upcoming high school season. Here is a look at the standout sophomores who made a statement on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2532341' first='Keyae' last='Lacy'] – Simeon

Lacy displayed complete three-level scoring, showing a very balanced approach when finishing athletically at the rim alongside soft touch and legitimate range on his jumper. He breaks defenders down effortlessly off the dribble and consistently finds ways to manufacture points in tight windows. Lacy also went toe-to-toe in two highly competitive showcase battles against [player_tooltip player_id='2532321' first='Elijah' last='Bell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2389398' first='Orlando' last='Edwards'].

[player_tooltip player_id='2926086' first='Kaijay' last='Brown'] – Lincoln-Way East

A slick 6'3" guard who plays with noticeable pizzazz, Brown kept defense on its heels all day. Using his long arms and a tight handle, he can fill up the stat sheet in a hurry. His highlight of the day came during an explosive stretch run where he poured in four consecutive buckets in a single stretch of play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2935927' first='Corey' last='Wellere Jr.'] – King

Wellere boasts a tight handle, using it to get into the lane and finish through contact at will. He operated efficiently off ball screens and delivered high-impact defensive plays, snatching steals and tracking down blocks. With deep range on his jumper and rugged toughness when attacking the cup, he put his complete two-way profile on display.

Nojus Venkus – Lockport

Venkus had his smooth jumper flowing from the jump. A highly skilled guard, he proved equally effective whether slashing to the basket or operating as a spot-up shotmaker. He plays with exceptional court IQ and a deep toolkit, continuing to build serious developmental momentum with his play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2499153' first='Jaylen' last='West'] – Hillcrest

An aggressive two-way guard, West was a nightmare for opposing ball-handlers. He acts as an absolute agitator on defense, crowding space and forcing backcourts into bad decisions. Offensively, he scores across all three levels and crashes the glass with purpose, proving to be a tough cover for anyone paired against him.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125660' first='Lamari' last='Carpenter'] – Glenbard North

Solidifying his spot as a top-10 guard in the state, Carpenter moved the ball cleanly while using his elite athleticism to break down defenses. He routinely got to the top of the key for straight-away three-pointers and attacked the rim with balance, drawing whistles continuously. His ability to pull up into a mid-range jumper off the bounce makes him nearly impossible to keep in front.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125688' first='Tray' last='Alford'] – Oswego

Standing 6'0", Alford is a speedy, slick point guard who gets to his spots effortlessly and sets up teammates off paint touches. Opponents have to respect his shot when he gets open looks. Playing with poise and quickness, he looks primed for a huge senior campaign.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432131' first='Isaiah' last='Hall'] – Brooks

A crafty 6'1" scoring guard, Hall filled it up from all three levels throughout the showcase. He showcased real defensive utility in the half-court alongside deep range on his jumper. Hall has made a massive name for himself across showcase events over the past month.

[player_tooltip player_id='2532344' first='London' last='Rome'] – Payton

The 6'3" guard used his length to finish at the rim with frequency, especially in transition. Rome plays at an even, mature pace and impacts the game whether on or off the ball. He also showed off explosive athleticism when maneuvering through traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id='2389398' first='Orlando' last='Edwards'] – West Aurora

Edwards put his explosive athleticism, bounce, and wiggle on full display across multiple phases of the game. He has a natural nose for the ball and jumps passing lanes on defense, constantly pushing the pace to act as a one-man fastbreak in transition. Continued play at this level will translate into direct scholarship opportunities down the road.
