Updated 2029 Rankings: Movement within the top 10

Our updated 2029 rankings are now live and as we usually do following a release, there will be plenty of content flowing on the list of prospect in the coming days. Considering this class will only be heading into their sophomore seasons, this order could fluctuate quite a bit over the next two years. For now though, we are reacting off strong freshman campaigns and performances that we've seen this spring and summer to help compile a list. I'll kick things off with looking at the movement within our top 10!    While movement is expected in this class as a whole, the top two prospects in Costley and the player below seem to have a stranglehold a the top. There was no reason to move the 6'4" combo guard from the No. 1 spot and in fact, he's only gained ground on his top position after an MVP showing at UA Future 60, a strong/efficient couple of weekend at DMV Live and the success that he had playing up on 16s for [program_tooltip program_id='2077005' first='Team' last='Thrill'] in UAA play. Costley brings an intriguing skillset as a fluid shot maker with fundamentals playing off the bounce. His playmaking and ability to process reads off the live dribble has improved significantly and the potential that remains considering his young age is why programs such as Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Villanova and Virginia Tech have all extended offers.     Nearing 6'10", Abraham is a massive post presence that simply cannot be duplicated in this local class. He entered his freshman season with plenty of work to do on trimming down his frame and when you look at his build today, there's drastic improvement, which is a testament to his hard work as he battled through an injury that kept him sidelined for a few weeks. His ability to dominate the paint and block touches is obvious, but what has become more of a regular sight is the touch on his jumper out to 15 feet. Abraham was tested on several occasions as a freshman against nationally ranked upperclassmen and didn't struggle at all keeping or maintaining his position in the trenches. As he continues to improve his body and adds more wrinkles to his offensive skillset, the sky's the limit for Abraham. Texas Tech and West Virginia are a couple of programs who have offered early.     Good signs of improvement for Schneeberg over the last few months with the combination of his play at DC Live and EYBL with [program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'] 15s. The size is what catches your eye at first as he stands near 6'5" and has legitimate guard skills where he can toggle on or off the ball. His three-point shot is the next area of emphasis when it comes to improvement, but his feel, ability to take advantages when smaller guards defend him and his playmaking are all reasons why he'll be a prospect on the rise as college programs start looking into the 2029 class.     In today's game, instincts and IQ are at the top of the list for the majority of college programs when evaluating prospects. Higginbotham has proved himself in those ways exponentially over the last 3-to-4 months, hence the reason he received a boost inside the top-5. He's slated to fill a huge role for Gonzaga after impacting as a freshman and despite being undersized, has tremendous command on the ball reading the floor, controlling pace and knowing how/when to pick his spots. He's the ultimate stabilizer as the floor general, but must be accounted for defensively with a killer mentality when it comes to hitting big shots in big moments. It's no secret that small guards have plenty of obstacles to overcome, but Higginbotham has the poise and confidence to prove many wrong.     Tchoubfong is a physical specimen at 6'5" with the frame that would lead you to believe he'd have great success on the gridiron. Let's not be mistaken though, basketball is his only sport and he thrives at using his frame to bully matchups whenever they cannot match his measurables. He'll be the cow bell for Good Counsel this season despite just being a sophomore and showed he was capable of accepting the lead role averaging 16.6PPG, 7.4RPG and 1.3APG in DMV Live play. He rounds out our top five prospects with plenty still left in the tank in terms of upside.     Staying on the topic of nice-sized guards who show a great deal of promise in the future if they take care of business, Zaid is primed for a primary role with Landon after impressive spurts during his freshman season. He dropped one spot in this latest update, but it had more to do with others improving than Zaid not living up to the bill. Still, becoming more consistent and willing to be a multiple-effort type of guy could help his trajectory and ultimately would lead Landon to a lot of wins over the next few seasons. When he's at his best, Zaid is an impactful on-ball presence who can use his size to get where he wants on the floor and dice up a defense with high-level reads or scores within the mid-range.     It was a nice few months for Rhodes in terms of his overall development and the production supported that claim. Although Melo 15s struggled as a team, Rhodes took over as the most talented and productive player on the roster. He was able to carry over that production in June during the Scholastic Live Period with McDonogh as he averaged 12.4PPG, 6.2RPG and 2.2 APG. He's at his best working inside the arc whether it be in the mid or high-post where he taps into his clean footwork playing off two feet. The shooting stroke indicates a clear path to developing more of a outside threat, but for the time being, his bread is buttered by the rim where his soft touch, instincts and ability to finish through contact shines.     One of the younger players in this class, the upside and potential with Echebi could allow him to climb back up into top-5 status by the time he's a senior. After posting dominant numbers for a freshman at Largo in the public school scene, Echebi will transition to the WCAC where he looks to be a piece of Bishop McNamara's success puzzle. At 6'7", he brings athleticism, versatility and a budding skillset that could make him into a true two-way presence in time. While he experienced a slight drop in the latest update, I'm as high as anyone on Echebi's long-term ceiling and with steady production and improvement, he could be one that demands attention quickly.     Potter will have one of the largest roles for his respective high school team in comparison to anyone on this list. The 6'8" big man is a lumbering presence inside who used the DMV Live stage to showcase a potential floor-spacing presence in pick-and-pops as his development track continues. He put up 15.8PPG and 6.9RPG in June, which are pretty staggering numbers for a rising sophomore. As Potters adjusts to his body, becomes quicker laterally and adds a bit of pop, he could be one of the bigger mismatches not only in the IAC, but the DMV as a whole.     In the conversation of potential, upside and comparing those with the current rate of production, nobody rose as high as Williams as he soars into the top 10. Take into consideration his size at 6'6", his plus length and his bloodlines and you have a prospect that typically has success at the highest levels of the college game. If proof is needed, the rising sophomore posted and alarming 26.1PPG and 8.2RPG while shooting 48 percent from the floor throughout Capitol Hoops Summer League play. To add, Williams led Boo Williams' 15U team with 16.9PPG and 7.2RPG in EYBL play. As he continues to improve his percentages from deep and grow as a playmaker for others off the bounce, Williams' upside is as intriguing as any prospect in this local class.
