-One of the youngest prospects in the class, Echebi did a little bit of everything for a really young Largo group this season. When Echebi’s motor is running hot, there aren’t many better rebounders in the area as a dynamic athlete that lived above the rim this season. He showed a more versatile floor game over the course of the season as a wing that can get downhill, knock down open perimeter looks, score through contact, and play both on or off the ball in transition as a leaper that makes defenders make business decisions in midair. Echebi will team up with Nuñez and Schneeburg on a stacked Durant 15u team.

Toby was a physical interior presence that produced by establishing position and finishing strong in the paint. He showed polished footwork, including a smooth face-up move into a strong hop-step finish. He was effective on the block during the State Playoffs, using strategic backdowns and scoring moves. Toby impacted the glass strong on both ends for Largo and worked hard to get into scoring position. Really enjoyed seeing Toby take the role as a reliable offensive option for the Largo Lions.

-It was really the tale of two halves for the #3 player in our 2029 class, as Echebi came roaring out the gates to show off his dynamic athleticism and versatile skillset. He hit a well-timed spin move on two defenders to score the layup in transition, had a tough catch and finish in traffic on the BLOB set, showed the hands on the catch over the top in transition before he hit the layup, threw down 2-handed lob finishes throughout the 3Q to build a double digit lead for his team , hit a turn around jumper from the elbow, snagged a really strong catch and drop step dunk in the 4Q, and scored off of several catch and spin layups through contact to earn 3 points the old-fashioned way. As he becomes more comfortable picking his spots as a driver and pick n pop threat in the halfcourt, I think we can see this level of production on a nightly basis.

-Echebi makes the move up to 3 as one of the more consistent high-level freshman producers in the area. He’s shown that he can be a dynamic play-finisher around the rim and the handle has improved to take advantage of long strides in the paint to cover ground quickly. An improved shooting stroke from the perimeter adds another dimension to his game that should prove immensely valuable over time as he continues to grow taller. Hard to overlook or understate the impact that he has on a very young Largo team.

I’ve been impressed with the strides that Echebi has shown as we’re in the midway point of the season. The 6-foot-6 14-year-old looks the part of a sophomore or junior with his build, strength and know-how, but luckily for Rodney Ward, he’ll have plenty of time to work with the promising freshman. This isn’t to put unrealistic expectations on Echebi, but from an ascetic standpoint, there are a lot of similarities in his game with former Largo legend Cam Ward (Michigan State). He’s a powerful finisher above the rim and has found his niche as a screener or active mover without the ball on the baseline to play off Ashe or Johnson’s paint touches. Echebi is a prideful rebounder, alters shots around the bucket and plays with a high motor given his young age.

Echebi has been among the most productive freshmen in the entire region early on this winter and kept that up in Salisbury, averaging nearly 20 points and 10 rebounds across two games. The physical forward brings a promising blend of current production and long-term potential, using primarily his size and instincts to impact the game while showing a budding skill level both near the rim and out toward the perimeter. He carves out great position inside and is an efficient finisher off dump offs, cuts, or offensive boards. Echebi is already impressively vocal for a prospect his age and looks to be starting to turn a corner athletically with increasing pop in his legs. It will be interesting to see if he develops more of a wing game moving forward or remains an inside-out mismatch, but nonetheless this kind of production at just 14 years old bodes well for his long-term outlook.

Echebi left arguably one of the bigger impressions on me during my time in Salisbury. The freshman forward has the look, production and potential upside of some former DMV high school prospects who are now playing at the highest levels in college. The early signs with Echebi bring optimism given his size, mobility and powerful athleticism around the rim at a young age. His motor runs high and every now and again, he’ll flash some perimeter skill when the situation presents itself. For now, he’s the paint presence for this Largo team that looks to make noise after claiming the Class 2A state title in 2025. They’ll face much more of a challenge in completing the task this season, but the further they go, the more it bolsters Echebi’s argument as being the top prospect in the MD/DC 2029 class. They’d finish 1-1 at Gov. Challenge as Echebi posted 19.5 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

-Palpable buzz in Largo as Echebi begins his career looking to make an impact right away for a Lions team that graduated one of the all time PG County greats in Michigan State wing Cam Ward. Echebi has a nice skill base with plus physical tools and dynamic athletic gifts. An athletic forward that continues to add more ball-handling/passing/shooting ability— he really stood out to our scouts at the Prep Hoops Expo, competing at a high level against a prospect pool that was filled with mostly upperclassmen. Echebi will have to develop in a trial by fire setting alongside the senior guard duo of Ashe + Johnson

Second time watching Toby and he continues to stand out as one of the Top freshmen in the DMV and Middle Atlantic region. Toby is a high-motor wing forward who brings energy and versatility to the floor. He makes smart decisions out on the perimeter and in the post. Can step out and knock down shots comfortable from 19 feet and in and consistently provides value as a rebounder. Echebi attacks closeouts with confidence, can finish at the rim through contact, and consistently makes the extra pass when opportunities arise. He can create with the ball in his hands, but he’s at his best in spot-up situations and moving effectively without the ball to find open space. I look for Toby to consistently impact both ends of the floor, bringing toughness, energy, and tremendous value to his Largo team every time he steps on the court for the next four years.

-Largo has another one on the way in Echebi as a mobile wing prospect that really impressed our scouts with his combination of size and athleticism. The tools really pop as a bouncy vertical leaper that also steps onto a high school campus with an advanced frame and tantalizing set of ball skills. His jumper looked great on C+S or face-up opportunities throughout the afternoon and he competed on the defensive end of the floor as a mobile W/F tweener capable of protecting the rim or sliding on the perimeter. His competitive drive and work ethic should maximize his long term potential as he steps into 3A PG County Basketball looking to win another championship for Coach Ward and co.
