We recently updated our 2027 class rankings in Virginia, with it being one of the deepest rankings I have been apart of in my 10 years with the Prep Hoops VA site. We will take a look at some of the top players in each region of the state from a positional standpoint, starting with the top 10 shooting guards and small forwards in the Northern VA area.

#2) [player_tooltip player_id='2353544' first='Corey' last='Dixon'] | 6'3” SG | Bishop O'Connell

Dixon is one of the top scorers in all of the DMV, and that became a fact when he transferred to O'Connell last season and put up consistently big numbers in a tough WCAC last year. The 6'3” guard is a tough shot maker who can get to spots and hit contested shots in the midrange, he can drill it from deep with good range, he can get downhill and is a strong finisher around the rim, and he has a ton of confidence with the ability to get it going and takeover games.

#3) [player_tooltip player_id='2458579' first='Jacoby' last='Briscoe'] | 6'6” SF | The St. James

Briscoe is one of the most intriguing long term prospects in this class, as he has all the physical and athletic tools to play at the highest of levels, and a skillset that continues to improve along with it. At 6'6” he's an absolute mismatch as he has Swiss-army knife ability offensively, he can handle and get to spots and use his size to rise up and make shots over defenders, he is a fluid and explosive athlete when he gets downhill, and he makes an impact across the board on both ends of the floor.

#4) [player_tooltip player_id='2194710' first='Brian' last='Mitchell Jr.'] | 6'4” SG | Paul VI

Mitchell was one of the top players in the Richmond area as a sophomore at Varina, and he became a national recruit after transferring to PVI and being the second leading scorer on the national runner-ups last year. The 6'4” guard is a walking bucket as he can work off the ball and drill it from deep on the move and with good range, he can play on the ball with the ability to create space and post up smaller defenders and make shots in the midrange, he's a strong finisher around the rim, and he gets to the line often as well.

#8) [player_tooltip player_id='2027757' first='Joe' last='Nunez'] | 6'4” SG | The St. James

Nunez transferred to St. James last year from New York and was one of the top players for them in their first year on the EYSL, and he's one of the more intriguing prospects you will come across in the entire state. At 6'4” he has a great frame and is a big time athlete when he gets out in the open floor, he can score the ball in a variety of ways from all over the floor, he is versatile defender and good rebounder, and he still has a lot of room to improve moving forward.

#10) [player_tooltip player_id='2382874' first='Mason' last='Ridgeway'] | 6'6” SF | Evergreen Christian

Ridgeway transferred to Evergreen Christian last year and reclassified to the 2027 class, and after helping them win a state championship last year he has caught the eye of a number of college coaches. The 6'6” wing is a versatile two way impact guy who can post smaller defenders and finish around the rim, he can stretch the floor and put it on the deck on the perimeter, he can make plays for others, and he can guard multiple positions and rebounds well on both ends too.

#18) [player_tooltip player_id='2353646' first='Simas' last='Kacerauskas'] | 6'7” SF | Episcopal

Kacerauskas has been a player that we've had our eye on for a number of years now, and he's really started to come into his own over the past few years and is starting to catch the eye of college coaches. He has great positional size and is highly skilled with the ability to handle the ball and make plays for others, he is a mismatch who can score it on the perimeter and post up smaller defenders, he plays with great pace and a good understanding of the game, and the way he's continued to improve bolds well for him moving forward.

#19) [player_tooltip player_id='2853450' first='Farrell' last='Djossinou'] | 6'7” SF | Paul VI

Djossinou may have been a player that got overshadowed at times on PVI's nationally ranked team, but he has a ton of upside moving forward and is a player college coaches should take a look at. The 6'7” wing is a good athlete who can run in transition and use his strong frame to finish around the rim, he gets to spots in the midrange and has great footwork and a silky smooth pull-up, and he has a ton of upside on the defensive end as well.

#22) [player_tooltip player_id='3651521' first='Tristan' last='Franklin'] | 6'5” SF | Potomac School

Franklin had a big year at Bishop O'Connell last year, coming up clutch for them on a regular basis and emerging as one of the top wings in the DMV in doing so. He has a great frame that will fill out nicely when he gets to the next level, he can drill it from deep with great form and a quick release, he buys in defensively and is good both on the ball and in help, and he can fit in multiple systems and roles as well.

#26) [player_tooltip player_id='2575696' first='Jamison' last='Ross'] | 6'6” SF | Highland School

Ross has steadily improved over the past few seasons at Highland School turning potential into production over time, and he still has a ton of upside moving forward for whatever school sees him this summer. The 6'6” wing has great positional size with length and is an explosive athlete who can get on the rim when he gets downhill and attacking the offensive glass, he has really improved his consistency as a shooter from deep, and defensively he brings great energy with the ability to get deflections and challenge shots as well.

#33) [player_tooltip player_id='1588148' first='Chuma' last='Achufusi'] | 6'4” SG | Episcopal

Achufusi has been one of the most consistent players in the DMV over the past couple of years, and has been one of the biggest risers in the rankings over that time. The 6'4” off guard can fill it up in bunches with his ability to make shots from deep and create off the bounce, he gets downhill aggressively where he's an athletic and crafty finisher, he can make plays for others, and he brings fantastic energy on both ends when he's on the floor.
