Expert Analysis
Colby Giacubeno | Prep Hoops Scout
Kacerauskas isn’t the type of forward who will catch your eye in warmup line skying over the rim or stick out with an imposing frame, but what he has that makes him extremely valuable are elite instincts as a rebounder. He doesn’t overwhelm with strength in leveraging, but has excellent timing on when to pursue the ball that put him in the right spot 9.9/10 times.
This is especially the case on the offensive end. He’s great at crashing from the weakside and getting the exact angle needed to avoid contact while using his length to secure misses. He’s quick off his feet, which helps after gathering the miss to quickly explode up for clean up buckets.
Overall, Kacerauskas is a valuable connector piece who will make all the small plays that result in big swings and ultimately wins as the EYBL season progresses.
He averaged 4.7PPG., 6.3RPG (2.7ORPG), and 3APG.

The 6’7″ junior earned both All-State and All-MET honors this season. Kacerauskas is a skilled, versatile combo forward from Lithuania who can stretch the floor out to the three-point line and impact the game in multiple ways. He has shown improving athleticism, can attack off the bounce with straight-line drives, and finishes effectively around the rim. A capable rebounder who plays with feel and versatility, he offers intriguing upside as a modern forward prospect.

You could catch Simas finishing a layup over the top of the defense at almost any point in this game. Simas used his height in ways that any coach would love to see. If he didn’t make his way to the rim off the dribble shielding off the defense, he was underneath the rim finishing the putback layup. It was an impossible task this game for the opponent in slowing Simas down. He was able to get anything he wanted and showed that even without the size mismatch, he was determined to dominate on the offensive end.

12p 12r 2a 2b 4/9 FG 4/6 FT vs Jackson Reed
-Skilled 4 man had an extremely balanced game in a nice win for Episcopal over Jackson Reed. Kacerauskas knocked down open midrange jumpers, used his pivot extremely well in the paint to maneuver around defenders, and closed out a ton of defensive possessions. Came away impressed with the timing of his two blocks, anticipating his matchup’s takeoff and hustling to the spot to block the shots without fouling. No-brainer recruit for high-academic schools.

20p 11r 1b 1s vs Ryken
-Kacerauskas is a really inside-out prospect and has impressed our scouts as both a shooter in some games and an inside scoring presence in others. He was extremely effective in the paint in this one, using his defender’s momentum against them well to score around the rim using a series of up fakes, spin moves, pivots, and euro steps. His hands are like magnets for the basketball around the rim and he usually makes the right decision to either score or kick out to a teammate if he’s surrounded by too many defenders. If he can quicken his footspeed and his pace off the bounce, his upside as a prospect will only continue to balloon.

DMV Live
-Really excited to see Kacerauskas play again in person because of the offensive upside. The southpaw W/F tweener can shoot, pass, and handle the basketball while also displaying a soft touch in the paint. He’s capable of running a PnR as a screener or ballhandler, can hit perimeter shots off the catch or off of movement, and has the IQ to understand when he needs to attack a hard closeout and get to the rim. His positional size and skillset give him a nice floor as a bonafide D1 prospect that should push his way to the MM level over the next year, with the potential to continue climbing.

was a great fit at Episcopal this season. Simas is a terrific driver, and at his size, he is incredibly difficult to stop when he’s attacking the rim. Simas driving ability sets up his passing as well. Simas has an excellent motor, and he does an outstanding job on the glass. Simas is an elite defender who guards multiple positions. The mix of size and effort raises the floor for a defender by a lot, but he also possesses the IQ and instincts to be elite defensively. He averaged 11 PPG, 11.4 RPG, and 2.4 BPG. He was an All-IAC selection.

Simas continuously found himself breaking through the defense and finishing at the rim. He had a multitude of strong contact layups by the end of the overtime win over SMR. He was consistent in his slashing and living at the basket until the defense made the proper adjustment. Afterwards he still impacted the game both with his passing and outstanding defense and activity. He defended the rim at a high level and was pretty underrated as a rim protector. Simas played the ball well and knew how to leverage his positioning against the offensive player. He was all over the glass, collecting offensive rebounds and finishing the play often. Came away very impressed with Simas’ high-level production for a young and determined Episcopal squad.

this year, his defensive ability and disruptive nature stood out to me. He can shoot the ball a little bit, and he was a riser to me early in the season. He is a good finisher, and even though he’s left-handed, he is comfortable finishing on his right. He has the versatility to play multiple positions, and he was an easy choice for me at one of my forward spots.

was on defense. He gets his hands in passing lanes and is a defensive playmaker. His instincts are fantastic, and he racks up blocks and steals every game. Simas is a great spot-up shooter who can create offense by knocking down jumpers over defenders. Simas drives the ball well and is a talented finisher on either hand. Simas’ stock rose this year, and it will continue to rise.
