Dixon made his first appearances of the season in the EYBL in Las Vegas and showed why he is one of the DMV’s top perimeter prospects. The Bishop O’Connell product is a scoring guard who has a very good command of the basketball and a high basketball IQ. He is a three level scorer who is capable of creating offensive opportunities for himself or others. Dixon plays with toughness and confidence and should continue to see his recruiting stock rise over the remainder of the summer.

One of the country’s top wing scorers, Dixon led the Knights to a 2-0 Day 1. He averaged 25 points and posted 6 assists in a victory over Potomac School. Dixon can score at all three levels, has good strength and is creative with the basketball off the bounce. Dixon had himself a day as he continues to prove himself as one of the top combo guards in the DMV regardless of class. He’s always had the fluid movement whether he was on or off the ball, but the processing and split-second decision making is surfacing with regularity, which is taking his overall game to new heights. He’s seeing the floor more fully on drives and gradually becoming a guy who makes everyone around him better. Not to mention the high-level scoring package he brings as a multi-level threat.

In two wins over Potomac and CATS Academy respectively, Dixon averaged a loaded stat line of 25PPG, 7RPG, 5.5APG and 2.5SPG.

Dixon was slated to miss the S1 weekend and return for S2 as he had nursed a back injury for the last two months. Against St. James Academy however, the 6-foot-3 combo guard laced up and put on a shot-making clinic en route to 31 points on 11-of-17 from the field and a blistering 6-of-9 from three. Many of his shots came from off the bounce, which showed good signs of his pace, confidence and balance. The impact wasn’t limited to the offensive end though, as he accounted for six steals in the blowout victory, which would be O’Connell’s lone win of the weekend.

The state’s top shooting guard, Dixon earned All-WCAC honors this season after consistently proving himself against one of the toughest levels of competition in the country. A skilled scoring guard, he is equally effective with or without the basketball in his hands, making him a versatile offensive weapon. Dixon combines good strength with a high basketball IQ, allowing him to play through contact, make smart reads, and impact winning in a variety of ways. He is a reliable perimeter shot maker who can knock down shots from beyond the arc, but his value extends beyond scoring. Dixon has the vision and feel to create opportunities for teammates, making him a capable secondary playmaker when defenses focus on taking away his offense. His combination of scoring ability, toughness, shot making, and basketball intelligence firmly places him among the elite perimeter prospects in the country.

Dixon, a Second Team All-WCAC selection, has emerged as a dynamic scoring guard who averaged 16 points per game for Bishop O’Connell. Strong and physical in the backcourt, he has the versatility to play with or without the ball in his hands, making him a valuable offensive piece. A solid three-point shooter, Dixon can stretch the floor, but he is equally comfortable creating offense off the bounce and attacking gaps when defenders close out. A quick and shifty combo guard with deceptive athleticism and a long wiry frame. He is all arms and legs but is silky smooth and can dominate in stretches and make it look effortless! His ability to use the dribble to create separation with dazzling moves on the open floor showing particularly good end to end speed and difference maker on the offensive end. And his crafty defensive instincts are intruiging along with his ability to use his length to rebound and play the passing lanes. Corey finished the game with 16 points 5-16 from the field, 3-8 from the 3pt line, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals.

-Really, really have come away impressed with the strides that Dixon has made as an on-ball defender this season. Dixon is tracing the ball well on his opponent’s dribble pick-up’s to force turnovers and deflections, is contesting or blocking perimeter shooters, and is playing more disciplined to avoid foul trouble. The DM game was no different, using his defense to fuel his offense with 3 steals that turned into buckets or FTs at other end to get him in a scoring rhythm. He then scored on a good flash to the middle for the catch and quick floater, scored on a backdoor layup, and hit a huge hanging double clutch lay off the window for the AND1 bucket. Love the skill progression and improved feel, which is why he was moved into the top 5 for his class in the state of Virginia.

Dixon has been a prospect that I’ve been higher on than most for some time now. The fluidity, shot making ability off the bounce, and overall IQ were all early indicators for me that he’d be a safe bet as his body continues to develop through high school.
