Colby Giacubeno | Prep Hoops Scout
McQueen’s spring playing up on the 17U level with Washington Warriors prepared him to take on a lead role for his new school in Bishop O’Connell. Set to form one of the more dynamic backcourt duos in the area alongside Corey Dixon, McQueen proved himself as a dynamic threat on the ball who provides a great balance scoring and distributing. Young for his grade, we’re just beginning to see McQueen meet the crossroads of natural maturity and improving his ability as an athlete overall as he threw down his share of impressive dunks during his time at DMV Live where he averaged 12.5PPG, 5RPG and 3.6APG as Bishop O’Connell finished both sessions with a 4-4 overall record.

A transfer from Landon (MD), McQueen is a talented, athletic, scoring combo guard with a good feel for the game. He has good size and strength and is can create offensive opportunities for himself and his teammates. He is certainly a prospect to watch in the 2028 class.

McQueen made his debut with O’Connell since announcing his transfer from Maryland and looked the part of another transfer point guard into the WCAC who should impact his new team in a massive way. For three of the four games he was without his backcourt mate,

, which meant the ball was in his hands the entire game with expectations of creating for himself and everyone around him. As the weekend progressed, you could tell his comfort level improved as his numbers rounded out to be 13.8PPG, 5.8RPG and 5.0APG. In the contest that Dixon laced up for, the Knights decimated St. James Academy 86-52. McQueen collected offers from Chattanooga, Iona and LaSalle.

-McQueen makes his official debut in new threads for an O’Connell team that will be missing some backcourt depth during the first scholastic live period. He gives the Knights a versatile guard that uses his size to score on the block or over smaller defenders on his way to the rim, create from the top of the key, and earn trips to the charity stripe to generate offense for his team. His size gives the Knights some lineup versatility as he can comfortably guard 1-3 and provide serviceable post defense on 1-4 switches. Although he is young for class—he has good feel for when to create for a teammate and when his team needs him to score, love how he understands how to utilize his pivot to escape double teams to create better passing angles.

Very solid play over the weekend and easily one of the most impressive guards in attendance. Averaged 12.8 PPG. Played with great pace and composure, never forcing the action while consistently making the right reads. Attacked the defense effectively, penetrating into the lane and finishing with ease. Showed the ability to control the game and impact winning in multiple ways. A high-major level guard with tremendous upside, especially considering he is only a sophomore already dominating against older competition.

-One of the youngest prospects in the class, McQueen performed admirably as an underclassmen leader for a very young Landon group that made some waves in the IAC. McQueen’s skill development showed steady improvement over the course of the season as a strong guard that can post up his matchup on the low block, make good decisions as a shooter and passer at the elbow, and make quick reads in transition. Our scouts expect him to gain more respect this offseason both locally and nationally as he plays up with the Washington Warriors’ 17u group as a budding scoring combo guard.

Eli had a big scoring night and got started early with a versatile array of scoring moves. He was a huge threat as an iso-scorer, getting into the paint with a shifty handle mixed with double-moves to create enough space for the drive or shot. Eli did true damage from beyond the arc this game, making shots following dribble moves or catching and firing. Posed a huge problem for the defense with his ability to wiggle by and get to any spot he wanted offensively. Mixed in floaters, midrange pullups, and blow-by layups to add to his 3pt threat. Showed a lot offensively and kept his Landon squad in the running for a while before the 4th quarter started heavily leaning in the opponent’s favor

One to keep an eye on in the coming years. Quick, combo guard who puts pressure on opponents with his ability to create paint touches. Excels in the open court. Capable of knocking down the perimeter shot. Really encouraging showing for long rangy two-way guard. The games is starting to slow down. Confidence is increasing. Showcasing twitch, vision, and craftiness as a creator. Getting where he wants off the bounce & scoring or setting up others and stroking the 3 consistently.

-We interviewed McQueen on the Hoop Threads Pod (found here) last week after several standout performances to start the year as a young guard with some nice upside. McQueen uses his positional size and length to serve as an effective scorer from the low block, has vastly improved his handle to become more effective in transition, and serves as an invaluable switchable defender for a young Landon team that continues to improve as the year wears on. If the jumper can continue to improve at the same rate as his touch in the paint, we only expect McQueen to continue to climb further up our rankings.

Elijah continues to show he is one of the top sophomores in the DMV area. McQueen possesses standout two-way guard skills. His lethal three-point shooting ability where he knocks it down in bunches and ability to score off the dribble and make plays for himself or his teammates. Defensively, McQueen is a long arm on-ball defender. He excels at closing passing lanes and creating turnovers, disrupting opposing offenses. Finish the game against Virginia Academy with 17 points on 6-12 shooting from the field, 0-3 from the 3pt line, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
