One Standout From Every Team at The Bee Summer Run

The event featured a balanced mix of experienced upperclassmen, rising underclassmen, guards, wings, and forwards who all found ways to impact the game. After a full day in the gym, these were the players who stood out most from each team in attendance.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Leading off my list of standouts from The Bee Summer Runs is [player_tooltip player_id='2495155' first='Davaris' last='Lambert'] of the hosts, McBee. This was my first look at Lambert in a Panther jersey after he transferred over from Lamar, and he did not disappoint. He was one of the best guards in the gym on Tuesday, showing off an elite level of explosiveness in attack along with an ability to efficiently knock down jumpers. I haven't seen a ton of Davaris over the years, but after what I saw today, I want to see more and have a feeling he could quickly rise from that #110 spot.     Another 2028 guard with physical tools that jump out at you is Lake. He is listed at 6'0" and has a plus wingspan, which makes him a factor on both ends of the floor. He contests shots well, is active in passing lanes, and helps control the glass on defense. On offense, he uses his length to be a creative finisher around the rim. If Hassan continues to improve his three-point shot, which he showed some good signs of in McBee, he will find himself on the radar of college coaches this time next year.     McCauley looks like he could be an important contributor for Catawba Ridge this season. They have a lot of production to replace on the wings, so Lucas' shooting ability will be much-needed. Whether he's hitting shots off the catch or attacking closeouts to get to floaters or strong finishes, his offensive prowess will draw the attention of defenses nightly. McCauley is another guy with some decent size at 6'3", so he might be worth a shot if a school sees the fit.     I was familiar with Mason prior to Tuesday, but this was my first time seeing a sample size this large of him. He played the entirety of Fairfield Central's back-to-back games, racking up 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in game one, and 14 points and 6 rebounds in game two. Nellumz is an active body in transition who scored a couple of easy buckets simply on his willingness to run the floor. Although he has a thinner frame, Mason will look to battle in the post and can use his length to capitalize on smaller defenders with dunks and put-backs.     Derrion Gattison was easily the most impactful defender at The Bee Summer Runs. Between the Red Foxes' two games, he tallied an extremely impressive 8 blocks and 8 steals. His size and athleticism showed up in many different ways: as an on-ball defender, as a helper, on the back line of a zone, and at the top of a 1-3-1 zone. Whether it was his instincts to protect the rim, mobility in space, or desire to make winning plays, there was no one who had their fingerprints on the game more than Derrion when it came to the defensive end of the floor.     I've had my eyes on [player_tooltip player_id='2890595' first='Jayce' last='Brown'] for a while, but it's already clear how important he will be to the Volunteers' success this season. He will run the one on most possessions, bringing notable positional size and length to the floor. Brown caught my eye in Andrew Jackson's second game today, going for 8 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Among the 4 FG's, there were signs of elite attacking footwork, so combine that with his length, and he's got the tools to be an elite finisher. If he can add some strength to be a multi-positional defender and continue to set his teammates up at a high rate, Jayce can certainly play at the next level.     Rounding out the list with two youngsters to know, Jaden had a pair of impressive shooting displays for Lugoff-Elgin today. He knocked down 3 threes in game one against McBee and followed it up with a pair of them against Fairfield Central. The lefty is one of the best shooters in the rising sophomore class, but he also flashed some strong traits defensively and with crafty finishing at the rim in both games. The Blue Demons have a very young team, so expect some growing paints, but Thomas certainly has the potential to be a great player down the line.     [player_tooltip player_id='2419237' first='Jayden' last='Lewis'] continues to shine as one of the top prospects in South Carolina's 2030 class. He's another young left-handed guard who impressed with scoring all over the floor, including a 22-point outing against Spring Valley on Tuesday. Jayden's feel for when and how to attack is unique for a guard his age, and he always seems to be in control of the game, while getting the shot he wants on every possession. That doesn't mean he is only a scorer, as he also sets up his teammates for good looks. Lewis is a special talent and is definitely one to watch over the next few years.
