Another player with intriguing physical tools who could be a diamond in the rough is Gattison. Derion recently moved to Darlington High School, but I was extremely impressed with his defensive energy and output with Hartsville in June. He is versatile enough to disrupt things on the perimeter or close to the rim, plus he is an athletic finisher around the rim offensively.

Derrion Gattison was easily the most impactful defender at The Bee Summer Runs. Between the Red Foxes’ two games, he tallied an extremely impressive 8 blocks and 8 steals. His size and athleticism showed up in many different ways: as an on-ball defender, as a helper, on the back line of a zone, and at the top of a 1-3-1 zone. Whether it was his instincts to protect the rim, mobility in space, or desire to make winning plays, there was no one who had their fingerprints on the game more than Derrion when it came to the defensive end of the floor.
