Expert Analysis
Andrew Baxley | Prep Hoops Scout
Deron had another strong season down for the Falcons in 2025-26. He racked over 16.5 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, and 2.0 blocks per game, doing a little bit of everything for his squad. He mainly played off the ball because of a capable senior point guard, but Ross is just as capable running the offense and creating for others as he is taking over and hitting tough shots.

. He went for 14 points and 5 rebounds for Darlington. Ross was at his best when getting the ball into the paint off the dribble, where he could finish through contact at the rim, hit floaters over shot blockers, or pull up in the mid-range. Deron had a crucial stretch in the second half where he was very engaged defensively, drawing a charge and just making life difficult for the opposing offense. If that is how efficient Ross will be on offense and effective he will be on defense for the rest of the season, look out for a deep run from the Falcons.

Deron is the first of two standouts from the 16U Blue Bracket Champs, Upward Stars Pee Dee . Ross was a key player for them in the first-round win over Wildcats Elite, going for 14 points. Of those 14 points, 6 of them came on a pair of threes, displaying his outside shooting ability. However, Deron also looked to drive the ball and was aggressive for most of the game. He will work through contact in attack, doing just that for a go-ahead and-1 in the final minute of Saturday’s first win.

. Ross was a piece to the Darlington High School puzzle last season which ended in the 3A State Championship Game with a loss to Powdersville. The Falcons are now in 4A Region 5. Deron brings physicality to the floor from his guard position. He will crash both sides of the glass, get paint touches, and finish around bigger bodies. Ross is unselfish in getting teammates involved and always has his head up when the ball is in his hands.

Ross guided the Falcons offense last season to the Class 3A State Championship Game. Deron and the Falcons recently didn’t partake in the SCBCA Elite Camp. Deron will be counted on for his leadership and game experience moving forward for the Falcons this coming season. Ross can get the ball inside the paint and find the gaps to make plays for others on the floor.
