This Upward Stars Pee Dee is another guy who had an impressive first half of the AAU season and caught the eye of several college coaches. Kayson is as smooth as they come offensively, but isn’t simply a scorer when he has the rock. He can efficiently knock down catch-and-shoot threes, attack closeouts to get to the paint, or create penetration and find open teammates, all of which combine to make him one of the top offensive guards in his class.

This in-state guard turned some heads with his play in Rock Hill. Dawson has a super smooth game with a balance of making plays for himself and others on the offensive end. He will play both on and off the ball for Upward Pee Dee, freeing him up to be a scorer at times. Kayson can get buckets at all three levels, and he did so in multiple games this weekend. He is still a somewhat unknown name in the Palmetto State, but look for Dawson’s stock to continue to rise over the summer.

Dawson went through several monster offensive stretches in his junior year. This earned him his first All-State award, but it also earned him the Region 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year trophy. Kayson put up 18.0 points per game and 3.2 assists per game this season, combining scoring and facilitating to become one of the most revered weapons in the Pee Dee.

Dawson went head-to-head with McClain in Thursday’s game, and it was his big second period that helped the Red Foxes pull out a win. He put up 15 points on 6-9 shooting over the last eight minutes, turning it on late with some strong scoring ability. Kayson knocked down two threes, got to his spots in the mid-range, and finished well off drives into the lane. However, the thing that was most important to his team’s success was how Dawson turned up his defensive intensity. He has a knack for reading passes right as they happen and tallied 6 steals to go with the standout scoring.

Kayson had a couple of really exciting moments for Hartsville in their win over East Clarendon in Florence. He was the most efficient player of the day, going for 18 Points on just two misses from the field. While a lot of his work was in transition, Dawson still knocked down both of his attempts from behind the arc. He displayed his body control in attacks, defensive instincts, vision, and athleticism. Kayson also helped his team be successful even when he didn’t have the ball in his hands, as he filled the lane correctly in transition and spaced the floor with his shooting.
