Guards Who Ran the Show at GBCA SE Live

Several guards took control throughout the weekend, setting the pace with their playmaking, scoring, decision-making, and ability to lead their teams. Wylie ran the show defensively from the jump, making life difficult for opposing ball handlers and jump shooters all game long. I had him tallied with 8 steals, but it was also a high-volume playmaking game for DJ and the most I've seen him on-ball for the Blazers. Wylie's strong frame, good size at 6'4", and basketball IQ are all key attributes to his game. Sanders continues to put together a strong, consistent summer for both Cane Bay (SC) and [program_tooltip program_id='2231960' first='Big' last='Shots SC']. You know what you are going to get with him every time; he is going to be impactful defensively, get others involved, and find his shots when needed. I watched the Cobras take on Calvary Christian (FL), and Jahleel took full advantage of weaker ball-handling, forcing lots of turnovers and turning them into points on the other end. He announced his Top 6 and Commitment Date on Friday, and then went out and proved he is one of the Top Point Guards in his class all weekend long. Savage's quickness and explosiveness are clear traits that will translate to the next level, but he's also a strong perimeter shooter and reads the game well. I got to see Keith in the Friday opener, which happened to be his highest-scoring game. He went for 38 points in a matchup with Dorman (SC), masterfully working the pick-and-roll to attack switches and blown coverages. The 2028 class could be one of the best in recent years, and Kaharri is currently the top-ranked Point Guard in the state. He impressed in Georgia this weekend, averaging 18 PPG across Saturday and Sunday. I checked in with Coleman and West Charlotte (NC) in a matchup with Wheeler (NC), and although it wasn't his best scoring game, he was still able to impact the game with his positional size on both ends of the floor. Currently ranked #27 in North Carolina's 2028 Class and the #5 Combo Guard, Sherod isn't exactly under the radar, but he's a very talented player who deserves more attention. Mooresville ran a lot of pick-and-roll sets, and McCormick made the right read every time. He is a tremendous ball-handler in various actions because he not only gets the ball where it needs to go, but he's also capable of turning the corner and getting downhill or pulling up when a defender goes under.
