We got out to the Metro State Camp this past weekend, and there was plenty of talent on display. It was great to see players take a break from the club scene and get us closer to what they will look like during the regular season. This is our first look at how these players will look this season, and for these players, it looks as if there will be big opportunities to prove themselves. Here are some players who have a buzz coming off the weekend in the Platinum division.

Morris is a player who feels like he's been around for quite awhile and he's a player who has adapted to what the team needs. He's probably a bit underrated at this point, as he's a steady guard who consistently contributes for Grandivew. He takes care of the ball, he runs the sets, and he keeps the team afloat at times. It was a new role for him as he's going to have to be more of a scorer this season, and we got to see him have his moments this weekend. Morris was attacking off the dribble, hitting the 3-ball, and playing with confidence. Morris has plenty of varsity minutes, and it looks like it as it's difficult to knock him off his groove. Morris scored with ease and looked like the vet on the team. I fully expect him to be the team's leader. Solid stock boosting weekend for him.

Matney was the team's leading scorer a season ago, but it was a balanced bunch that fed off of each other, which has its benefits. He used that as a way to play within the flow but also step out of it for 1-on-1 buckets. Matney plays both on and off-ball. He reads the court and causes so much gravity that shooters get open looks. Matney had some tough finishes in the games that we watched, and he's not shy at all; he was getting his shots up. He competed, grabbed boards, and one right up for a few easy baskets. He's a solid player that I certainly want to see more of.

I am curious to see how Cherry Creek unleashes Bodhi this season, as he will be the team's X-factor. He's a high upside wing with a strap, and when he gets an open look at it, bottoms up. Creek will have to create more of those opportunities for him as they have the pieces around it to give him some open looks. Barnett has good size and doesn't only shoot, either. He gets inside and bangs with the bigs, finishes over the top, and has an inside-out attack. He was one of the steady pieces for Creek who the defense has to keep attention on as he can have some big games. I think it will be a big senior season for him, where the buzz catches up with what we saw at the camp.

Medina started to come on to finish out the season as Rock Canyon won state last year with him as their secret weapon. Well, he's not a secret anymore, and this year should be his breakout season. He looks like he's gotten in shape, and the motor is starting to catch up, which makes him a dangerous player. He's a stretch big man who can shoot it, and he's skilled enough to put the ball on the floor to be able to finish on the block. There were always the flashes for him, but this should be a season where he is one of the go-to guys for Rock Canyon. There's a championship buzz to him right now, and his showing let us know he'll likely have a big season.

Valencia is a 2028 prospect who we've just been waiting for him to pop, and it finally looks like he's getting the opportunity to stand out for Grandview. He has the size, and he has moments where he looks like a complete player, but then others where he's fitting in. This weekend, he looked engaged, and it looks as if it's starting to come together and slow down for him. He stood out physically, he competed, and he runs the floor well for his size. Valencia also finishes around the basket with boards and screen and rolls, and even had a couple of pick-and-pops where he hit 3-pointers as well. Valencia has a high ceiling and is starting to show that he can be effective with more opportunities. Well, it's his time to shine is what we saw at the camp.

Sam has gone from a high-effort two-way player who understood his role to now having the keys to the offense, and he looked very good and ready for this role this weekend. Sam was lighting it up and had some big scoring games in both games that we saw him in. Sam gets downhill and attacks mismatches. He counters with spin moves and tough finishes, and they kept sending him to the FT line. IT also looks like he's been working on the 3-pointer as he had a few 3's as well, and when he's consistent there, the rest of the game will come. Sam is already one of the top players in the 2028 class, but with what we saw from him this weekend, he's looking like a riser who will have a big season. Big year coming for him.
