Our 2027 rankings were updated this morning and as usual, a slew of breakdown content is to follow. Aaron broke down the top ten and I'll move to the new faces who have entered our rankings with this update. Majority were ones that have been overdue for their debut, while a couple made strong impressions towards the end of the season to demand a spot in the new release.

Hughley makes his debut inside of the top-100 thanks to his production and helped SMCA to the MCST Division I championship. Hughley was one of main offensive threats for the Mustangs and provided the invaluable floor-spacing with his lethal outside shooting ability. He has a super quick release off the catch, possesses sound footwork running off screens, quickly sets his feet and lets it go with confidence. He's the type of shooter that can quickly rattle off three-straight from deep and change the course of a game in limited possessions. Defensively, he's active in passing lanes and is a catalyst for deflections, running down long rebounds and keeping his individual matchup at bay with good lateral quickness.

Mensah put together some of his strongest performances of the year when it meant most and despite coming up short in overtime thanks to a buzzer-beater from Blake, the 6-foot southpaw's character was on full display. His body of work is why he makes his debut in the top-100, but this game in particular spoke volumes to me as [player_tooltip player_id='2575614' first='Keon' last='Scott'] was sidelined for much of the game due to injury and other key producers weren't in rhythm. Instead, it was Mensah embracing the bright lights by teeing off from deep and converting pivotal three's to keep Meade in position to win. He's a stout and prideful defender from the point of attack and has a strong frame that withstands contact on drives. In the last few weeks of this season, I think Mensah's overall growth and confidence is going to spike not only a productive spring/summer, but have him ready to step in and be a key component to make another run in the Class 4A field next season.

Jones was more of an under-the-radar name that steadily produced and steered the ship from the point guard position for Glenelg Country. Being handed the keys to orchestrate the offense was new for Jones, but he brought value with his positional size and the way he used it to take advantage of passing windows over smaller defenders. He's a capable shooter with his feet set and used his length on drives to finish around the rim or make things tough on his matchup when on the defensive side. It's safe to say that he and [player_tooltip player_id='2888897' first='Kayden' last='Leggett'] will make up one of the better backcourt tandems in the MIAA next winter as Jones will have plenty of opportunity to improve this ranking in the process.

Another prospect that contributed to winning at a high level on this list is Neal. Mt. Zion Blue made a run to the MDPSSBT B Division title game and while [player_tooltip player_id='2450393' first='Angel' last='Long'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2148719' first='Mekhi' last='Polk'] got much of the praise, Neal brought consistent production both in the scoring column and rebounding category. He's more athletic than the eye test would suggest and brings nice feel in face-ups within the mid-range area to create his own opportunities. For this Mt. Zion Blue team, he posed mismatch problems playing in the frontcourt as opposing bigs struggled to keep him in front or monitor his activity on the backside as shots went up to keep him off the offensive glass.

Batty made a strong impression on me when I caught him late this season help lead Severna Park to a win over Meade and hand the Mustangs their first loss of the season. A 6-foot-5 hybrid forward that had to log much of his time at the five, Batty is a high-IQ connector with shot-making prowess from deep and in the mid-range. He's a guy that will thrive in a system whether it's heavily structured or more of a read-and-react type of scheme with limited dribbles. He moves well without the ball and understands when to break cuts off to flash to open spots where he can quickly catch, turn and get into his shot with great balance. His release is high, quick and fluid. Defensively, he uses his wingspan to take up space and showed effective tracing on misses to quick snag rebounds at their peak.
