Polk played hero in the semifinal game helping Mt. Zion to the championship game, banking in a floater as time expired. The quick-twitch point guard is a blur in the open floor and terrorized teams with his end-to-end speed throughout the tournament. The 5-foot-10 point guard averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 assists, 3.6 steals, three rebounds and over a steal a game. The loaded stat line is an indication of his activity and impact on both ends of the floor. Mt. Zion came in as the No. 6 seed and pulled off an admirable run to the title game led by their dynamic backcourt duo of Polk and Long, two prospects who should be on various levels of radars when it comes to college programs.

Kicking the day off with a bang, Polk came through under pressure to extend his high school career with a driving layup at the buzzer to send MZP Blue into the championship. The energetic two-way guard finished with 17 points, attacking with consistent aggression while setting an intense tone in the backcourt. He was effective getting to the rim off the bounce both in the halfcourt and running ahead of the ball in transition while also showing comfortable mechanics on his pullup stroke out to the arc. Despite being on the smaller side, he’s able to thrive using his quickness and impressive strength. Polk’s eight turnovers highlight his need to improve on his decisionmaking as a lead guard but his impact and production are undeniable.

-Polk leverages his size and quickness to get underneath opposing ball-handlers to generate turnovers for his team, allowing him to affect the game whether he is in a starting or supporting role because of how quickly he is able to switch ends/push the pace in transition. Once he gets his teammates going and has made plays in transition, he is able to knock down shots or attack long closeouts as an off-ball guy. His ability to flip the momentum in games as a ferocious competitor has added value to every high school or AAU team that he has played with over his career.

Mekhi showed well with his new squad Sunday. He was all over the court on both ends, flying to the ball defensively and getting to the paint at will with the ball. I always enjoy watching the heart that Mekhi plays with no matter the game situation. He took the lead and was clearly the go-to option for the Pioneer offense. Made some strong drives to the rim muscling the defense off and also made his jumpshots when left space.

-The quickness, speed, and tenacity that Polk plays with at both ends of the floor makes him a valuable asset to every team that he is a part of. Polk can race back in transition to get back in the play, cuts off driving angles to the rim with stunts, and plays passing lanes well to generate turnovers for his team. He covers a ton of distance on his closeouts despite his size and has a really quick set of hands to poke out steals or rip away dribbles if his matchup puts the ball in front of him. His willingness to take charges and switch onto wings/forwards to three quarter front to deter a post entry makes him a valuable piece.

Mekhi is one of the better defenders in the area. He has no problem picking up the ball early and aggressively beating the opposition to where he’s trying to go. Incredible speed and footwork mix that let Makhi wreak havoc on the defensive end. As good as Mekhi is on-the-ball, he is just as good off of it. He can play the passing lanes on the perimeter all game long and shuts down a whole side of the floor at times because of his off-ball prowess. Very heady defensive player that can shut down the opposition with his constant energy and ball pressure.

Mekhi was picking the opponent apart in 1Life1Shot’s dominant win at MADE hoops this past weekend. In his performance against Up Next NC, he got virtually whatever he wanted. Mekhi maneuvered into the lane to open up the floor and finish inside. He was strong with the dribble and confident in his ability to create, which is what I wanted to see most from him. He stepped up big and looked like he was in control of how the game was going to flow. Shot very efficiently form the floor, sinking in three-pointers and some midrange jumpshots alike through the game. Remained a pest on the defensive end as usual, creating loose balls and grabbing steals early and often. Defended the full length of the court with intention to disrupt. Looked like the best player on the floor this game.

will see a lot more touches. Polk is experienced and well-prepared for the challenge of being the main guard for Tech Prep. He has had to take on many different roles in his high school career, but now is the time for him to showcase all parts of his game. Fierce defender and a great facilitator at the point. Mekhi can be relied upon to show up each game for the team and play with maximum effort. Scores the ball at a much higher volume when playing AAU ball, so I’ll be watching to see if he can incorporate all facets into his arsenal for Friendship Tech.

15p 6r 4a 3s vs Theodore Roosevelt
-Continue to come away impressed by the lightning bolt of energy that Tech Prep gets at the point guard spot with Polk now in the starting lineup. A dynamic lead guard in transition whose speed and handle make it very difficult to stay in front of, Polk generates a ton of paint touches in each game to force the defense to collapse. Polk got it going early with a C+S wing 3 out of the baseline out of bounds set then hit a baseline pull-up to put his team up for good at the end of the 1Q. Polk always comes away with a few steals to go along with a nice mix of assists and rebounds that underline his impact on the contest.

2p 6r 5a 3s vs Christ School
-Polk struggled to score at the offensive end today, missing a few open looks that he normally makes beyond the arc and in the paint. But he was huge for Tech Prep’s run late in the 4Q to collect steals and make the right play for a teammate in transition. His energy as a disruptive gnat of a defender both on and off the ball created a ton of problems for the Christ School. I liked that regardless of how his own offensive performance was going, Polk continued to put pressure on the defense by generating paint touches and pushing his team to get easy ones in transition. He came up huge late when he rebounded his own miss then got from the lane to the opposite 3 point line before finding Shackleford on the opposite wing for an open 3 to make it a 1-possession game with under 30 seconds left in the game. His winning brand of basketball makes him a hard prospect to keep off the floor because of the way his energy can spark runs.
