Previous Rank: 88
-Long left the public school ranks and enjoyed a productive 2-year stint in Lanham as a scoring combo guard that can really fill it up with bunches. Whether he started his drive from the short corner, the wing, or the top of the key– Long smoothly gets into pull-up jumpers off of dribble pick-ups both in transition and in the halfcourt to score before the defense can contest his shot. His finishing bag around the basket has really improved with a flurry of euro step pivots and different finesse finishes. And he did a much better job of using the rim to protect layup attempts from being blocked by his defender as his career wore on. Will be intriguing to see how his college choices pan out as LM and D2 coaches have joined the ranks of the junior college coaches that are interested in his services.

Long quietly put together one of the better senior seasons in the MPSC as a well-rounded scoring guard who poses as a legitimate three-level threat. The 1,000-point scorer gets to his sport with impressive fluidity off the bounce and gets great lift while maintaining balance throughout the process. He can get downhill to the rim and use English on lay-ups to make life harder on rotating shot blockers, pull the trigger quickly when sizing up his defender from beyond the arc as well as shoot off movement off the ball coming off pin downs. While his first mission is to score it, Long doesn’t turn into a tunnel vision type of guy. On paint touches he’s aware of the defense collapsing and quickly delivers kick-out passes on target to shooters spotting up around the perimeter. He’s an instinctual defender with quick hands that looks to turn steals into quick scores. Long averaged an impressive 19.7 points, 5.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game leading Mt. Zion to a championship game appearance.

Fresh off his first D2 offer following an explosive quarterfinal performance, Long was at it again with a dynamic 19-point effort to help MZP Blue to a win at the buzzer. Long played with infectious energy while staying in attack mode, showing his quickness and creativity while getting to his spots off the bounce with consistency. Playing both on and off the ball, he proved to be a capable shooter whether off the catch from 3 or pulling up in the midrange. He also flashed slick passing vision with 6 assists and just 2 turnovers. He’ll have to add some strength to his frame and learn to slow down a bit at times as a decisionmaker, but Long is emerging late as a potential scholarship-level option in the backcourt with his high-octane attack.

Long poured in 26 points in a tough loss to The Star Alliance. His advanced self creation arsenal and multiple level shotmaking was on display throughout. Long connected on multiple threes and pullup middys including a ball screen reject with a quick crossover. He confidently swished a floater in the lane over a helping big, which was a very encouraging sign of the type of touch finish he’ll need in the paint as a smaller guard.

as a dynamic scoring CG that can create his own shot without a ball screen. Long started things off with a double cross into the downhill drive and floater with the right in the paint, hit his opponent with a double crossover into the right wing 3, came off a screen to hit a fadeaway middy from the right wing, knocked down a C+S movement 3 from the corner, had a middle drive from right wing into the elbow pull up, and drove from the baseline to the elbow to knock down a jumper.

Angel was smooth with the ball in his hands for TTO. Although he didn’t finish with high scoring numbers, he still had an impact on the game. Angel got his hands on the ball defensively and affected the opposing offense. Had a couple of nice jumpshots off the dribble, and shook the defenders off him with his elusive handle. Played a solid 2nd game on Sunday, dashing inside for a few baskets in the short range.

-Loved seeing Long in this role on the ball as he narrowly missed out on double digit assists for the game. Long started things off with a 3 off the dribble, had a great 1-handed push pass from a standstill from the top of the key, and came flat off a ball screen to free himself up for a big 3 late in the game. With his quickness and shooting ability, if Long can prove that he can be effective on the ball– it should open up things for his recruitment.

-Shooting is at a premium in today’s game and Long’s range stretches a few feet beyond the three point line. A fast guard in the open court that can finish at the rim or hit the pull-up jumper from the midrange, Long has morphed into a shooter that comes flying off of different actions for Mt. Zion National to space the floor for the Warriors. As he grows comfortable in his new surroundings I want to see Long be more assertive attacking closeouts and getting to the middle of the defense to create for teammates as the defense rotates on him more aggressively after a few shots fall through the net.
