About Corey
Expert Analysis
Colby Giacubeno | Prep Hoops Scout
Hughley makes his debut inside of the top-100 thanks to his production and helped SMCA to the MCST Division I championship. Hughley was one of main offensive threats for the Mustangs and provided the invaluable floor-spacing with his lethal outside shooting ability. He has a super quick release off the catch, possesses sound footwork running off screens, quickly sets his feet and lets it go with confidence. He’s the type of shooter that can quickly rattle off three-straight from deep and change the course of a game in limited possessions. Defensively, he’s active in passing lanes and is a catalyst for deflections, running down long rebounds and keeping his individual matchup at bay with good lateral quickness.

Skilled shot creator with some wiggle off the bounce. He is a knock down perimeter shooter with good size, playmaking ability and legit 3pt shoot maker. Hughley is also a good positional rebounder and a sneaky athlete. Corey impressed with his ability to play on or off the ball. Scored 16 points in the Digital Pioneer Academy.

Corey has shown time and time again that he can step up as both a scorer or a facilitator within the offense time and time again this season. He can hit with consistency from the outside when spotting up or from pulling up off the hip. Corey does a good job of letting the game come to him in terms of the offense, and knows the right times to take his shot. He is aggressive all game defensively and seeks out ways to steal the ball without fouling. Very efficient from the floor and should see his stock rise if he can continue playing at this level and better.

Corey had quite the efficient performance in his team’s final game/win for the Bracket Championship. He was able to get whatever he wanted offensively, blowing by his matchup at the right times or exploiting the defense and sharing the wealth by way of the pass. Led his SMCA squad in scoring with an eye-catching 20 points. Spread the ball around well, finishing with 5 assists on the game. Nowhere that Corey couldn’t get to on the floor. He could use his cat-quick first step to get by the defense and score, or bully his way to the rim with his stature and strength with the ball. This game was easy for Corey to attack in spurts and let the shot find him. Liked the way he took what the defense gave and got up clean shots beyond the arc and inside the perimeter.

While McGlone can touch the stat sheet in a handful of ways, Hughley took on more of the scoring role particularly in their bracket championship game against Seneca Valley (MD). He’s a well-rounded bucket-getter as he showed by getting to his spots and finishing with 23 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from three. He did a nice job throughout his two games touching the paint with two feet, making defenders pay for delayed closeouts beyond the arc and pushing the tempo on run-outs where he makes the right read as a scorer or distributor.

Hughley did a nice job stuffing the stat sheet with his play. He made a living in the paint and does a nice job getting by defenders. He showed that he can score from behind the arc and converted a few threes. He made a living at the charity stripe.

was stuck on automatic for Southern Maryland Christian. Corey was terrific shooting the ball, and he knocked down shots in multiple ways. He hit a handful of spot-up threes and hit a tough three on the move going to his right. Corey is a small guard, but he can be effective playing either guard position. Corey finished with 30 points in a SO MD Christian win.
