Top Individual Performances in the 10th Region Tournament

The 10th Region tournament came to a close Tuesday night with GRC getting revenge for last season by defeating district rival Montgomery County. There was no shortage of standout performances during the week at the historic Mason County Fieldhouse. Win or lose, players did everything they could in what was, for some, their final game of the season or even their high school careers, while others helped push their teams deeper into the tournament. With the lights at their brightest, these individual efforts should not go unnoticed.   QUARTERFINALS     In Scott's quarterfinal win over Mason County, [player_tooltip player_id='2510333' first='Johnie' last='Boyd'] posted a career-high 28 points. He didn't need any threes to do it, going 12-of-14 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line while grabbing 12 rebounds. Boyd used his physicality, height, and strength well throughout the game, consistently finishing in the paint and controlling the glass.       [player_tooltip player_id='2194461' first='Austin' last='Sears'] had one of the best shooting nights of the tournament in the quarterfinals, leading his team with 22 points. Most of his damage came from deep, as he went 6-of-8 from three and 8-of-11 overall from the field, including a two-handed slam in transition. He also added five assists and three rebounds, all in just 18 minutes of play. Taking advantage of Bracken County turnovers, Sears ran the floor effectively, spaced the floor well, and scored two fast-break buckets, including the dunk at the rim.     SEMIFINALS     [player_tooltip player_id='2122438' first='Montez' last='Gay'] provided everything for the Cardinals in the semifinals, using his physicality and athleticism to his advantage throughout the game. He consistently battled into the paint and scored through contact, setting the tone early by scoring the team's final 10 points of the first quarter to help build a 17-9 lead. Gay finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, went 2-of-4 from long range, and 4-of-6 from the free throw line, while adding three rebounds and making an impact defensively.      In MoCo's victory, [player_tooltip player_id='2529539' first='Andrew' last='Terry'] was the game changer. Facing a Campbell County team with plenty of size, Terry matched up well and made things difficult for the Camels all night, finishing with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, going 2-of-2 from three, and grabbing 10 rebounds. Terry impacted the game on both ends of the floor, proving difficult to contain off the drive while finishing efficiently at the rim and also threatening the defense with his ability to knock down perimeter shots. Defensively, he stayed active and used his length well to contest shots and disrupt possessions.     The 10th Region Player of the Year put together the highest scoring performance of the tournament, finishing with 30 points while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and adding eight rebounds. He impacted the game in multiple ways, handling and distributing the ball while working well in tandem with Campbell's center, [player_tooltip player_id='2993345' first='Braden' last='Elam']. Using his strength, size, and athleticism, he consistently got to the rim and finished through contact, while also knocking down several tough, contested shots outside the paint.     [player_tooltip player_id='2026991' first='Tyce' last='Jarvis'] scored 23 points in the MoCo win, shooting nearly 70 percent from the field at 9-of-13, while going 3-of-6 from deep and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also added five rebounds and three assists. Jarvis displayed impressive athleticism and was difficult for defenders to contain because of his ability to drive and finish at a high level while also knocking down perimeter shots. He thrived in transition, handling the ball well and finishing through contact at the rim, and even had a highlight alley-oop slam off a pass from [player_tooltip player_id='2194461' first='Austin' last='Sears'].    CHAMPIONSHIP     [player_tooltip player_id='2541123' first='Ryder' last='Akins'] looked built for the big moment, playing with confidence and composure throughout the game. He hit several big shots that helped swing momentum and played hard all night long. Akins led his team with 21 points, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from three, while also pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. His three-pointers came in key moments, and he also knocked down pull-up shots in transition. In addition, he handled and passed the ball well and battled hard in the paint.
