The second GRC player with a double-double, Bartelson was dominant in the paint with some powerful two hand dunks and four blocks. Winning the rebounding edge by 12, Bartelson’s length, size and energy on the glass were key reasons why GRC was able to overwhelm Johnson Central.
Another available prospect, Bartelson has multiple Junior College offers and could see more looks come his way after this week at Rupp. A physical post whose frame could add more muscle, Amari’s best basketball is likely ahead of him as he adds bulk and continues to improve his skill level.
Amari made a transfer from Bourbon County to GRC last fall and found himself settling into a role as a back to the basket forward, averaging 8 points and 6 rebounds per game for the season. Bartelson has long term potential as he will get stronger and could still be growing. Don’t be surprised if Amari finds a path at the Junior College level and ends up at the D1 or D2 level after a couple of years at Juco.
Bartelson averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds this season for a loaded GRC squad but has shown the ability to be an above average rim protector as well as a good low post threat. Depending on how well he can play this summer, Amari could show his potential as a scholarship level player.
Amari is still really raw but he’s got talent and is an above average rebounder that also offers rim protection. Bartelson has shown some offensive skills. The key right now is for him to not try to do too much on the offensive end.
Bartelson was probably the most valuable player on Friday night in the blowout victory. To open the game East Jessamine did a nice job of moving the ball and getting to the rim. Once they got there, they were almost always met by Bartelson contesting shots straight up and forcing wild misses or blocking the shot entirely. I was impressed with his ability to contest shots without fouling at the rim, a tough skill to master. Offensively, Bartelson did most of his damage 3 feet and in as a play finisher on the block and rim runner. Bartelson will definitely get a lot of regional recruiting attention this summer due to his size, length and production.
Amari transferred from Bourbon County to GRC this summer and lost about 50 pounds over the summer too. Fresh off of a triple double on Saturday afternoon where he had 11 blocks, Bartelson looks like he will have a big impact for the Cardinals, long term.
The 40th was an arms race this summer as GRC and MoCo combined for about 10 transfers. Bartelson could be the best of the bunch, if he decides he wants to be. A legit 6’7, Amari came to GRC from Bourbon County and will provide some inside out scoring for the Cards. Bartelson averaged 7 and 5 for Bourbon County as a Sophomore but could double that production if he’s got his motor running this season.
Saturday was my first chance to see Amari and I was impressed with his offensive arsenal. Bartelson has legitimate size at 6’7 and is capable of scoring on the block or stretching out and knocking down jumpers. If Amari can get in the weight room and on the Vertimax, he can take his game to the next level.
