We've spent some time highlighting the upperclassmen standouts from last week's games, now we move to a few of the freshman and sophomores that stood out to me last week. There are several performing at a high level in the local public school ranks, with roles ranging from best player to bench contributor. Let's tap in with a few of my favorites!

-Currently ranked at 6 in our sophomore class, there's a decent chance that Tarawally will move up even further in our next rankings update after a marquee performance on the road. He's an absolute pitbull with the ball in his hands, using a strong upper body to carve out space on his way to the rim or to spots in the midrange to raise up for a pull-up jumper. Tarawally was pretty dominant in transition as a scorer that also knows how to draw two and make plays for a teammate, utilizes long stride drives to the rim to throw off his defender's timing and avoid getting his shot blocked, and is finding more opportunities to hit the glass for easy putbacks before the defense can react. Tarawally also did a great job of coming off of ball screens tight and keeping his defender on his hip/in jail behind him to create advantage opportunities for high percentage looks. One of the best players in the county as a sophomore.

-Turner has carved out a nice starting role within Largo's rotation as a ball-hawking 2-way guard that also has really active hands off the ball. Turner started things off with an above the break C+S 3, rotated quickly to come up with help side block, was a scrappy "first to the floor" guard diving to collect 50/50 balls for his team, and showed dynamic speed in the open court in transition. His moxie to bang in the post defensively against taller opponents to come away with an emphatic on-ball block and swipe away several shot attempts to force the turnover really stood out throughout the contest. It's good to see a young prospect setting the tone for his team at the defensive end of the floor.

-It was really the tale of two halves for the #3 player in our 2029 class, as Echebi came roaring out the gates to show off his dynamic athleticism and versatile skillset. He hit a well-timed spin move on two defenders to score the layup in transition, had a tough catch and finish in traffic on the BLOB set, showed the hands on the catch over the top in transition before he hit the layup, threw down 2-handed lob finishes throughout the 3Q to build a double digit lead for his team , hit a turn around jumper from the elbow, snagged a really strong catch and drop step dunk in the 4Q, and scored off of several catch and spin layups through contact to earn 3 points the old-fashioned way. As he becomes more comfortable picking his spots as a driver and pick n pop threat in the halfcourt, I think we can see this level of production on a nightly basis.

-Came away very impressed with the balanced performance out of the freshman guard. Brown showed off a smooth right to left spin move into a series of different finishing moves around the rim, took the ball from C2C to score at the opposite end, had an explosive blow-by lefty drive AND1 lay over the opposing big at the rim, found open teammates on the block for easy layups under the rim, and froze the defender with a euro lay in transition. The balance of skill, assertive play, and 2-way impact makes him a nice sleeper in Baltimore County's freshman class.

-Moody is consistently producing as a key contributor off the bench for Brunswick that has dropped 20+ points multiple times this season. Moody can handle the rock enough to get to his spots, is seeing opportunities to squeeze between defenders with high or low dribble pick-ups, has improved his athleticism throughout the course of the season, and can play either guard spot. But his signature skill is the shooting. Love the lift and consistency on his jumper from all 3 levels as a player that is learning how to use his positional size to raise up over shorter defenders. Should turn some heads this season on the MHC with [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'] Showcase this spring and summer.
