The CBG x ASSIST Juco Prep Showdown has become a routine stop for me every October due to the wealth of talent ranging from several states and the reach of high school, prep, and JuCo programs in attendance. The Saturday slate delivered as expected and for this article, we'll look at the 2027 prospects who put together standout outings. If you haven't already, we highlighted some available seniors who stood out amongst the bunch as well.

Stock-rising day in Richmond for Bolding as he rose to the level of intensity in their war against Petersburg (VA) Saturday morning. Bolding is a tough-nosed guard who can get downhill in a flash or when in the open floor, uses his end-to-end speed to blow by defenders doing what they can to sprint back and contest. Ant Brown mans the on-ball duties for much of Carroll's games, but Bolding's complementary slashing ability off the catch becomes clear on skip passes or quick swings. He showed confidence letting it fly beyond the arc with time and space. The results spoke efficiently as he canned three triples in this particular matchup. A pesky defender, Bolding pressures the ball from the opposing free-throw line and makes the course of a 32-minute contest quite the uphill battle for a guard who can't handle pressure well.

For all of the talent that Highland's roster lost from last season, I'm excited to watch this group that head coach Logan Miller has for 2025-26. There's plenty of intriguing youth on the roster but for a guy like Asare, he'll be expected to not only up his production, but his leadership on the floor as well. Early signs from the weekend indicate he's more than capable in both areas. The southpaw lead guard has the ball on a string, but doesn't waste dribbles in his attack to get where he needs to. He's precise in ball screens and can use his burst to attack opposing bigs who hedge or make you pay in drop coverage in the form of quick pull-ups off the bounce. His presence on the ball doesn't interrupt the flow of the set that's being executed and he's willing to get off the ball before overdribbling. He was good off the ball as a mover and quickly slides to windows off as the defense reacts to others' penetration where he can do damage as a spot-up threat. Asare isn't just a scorer either. He sees the floor well and can make passes into small windows to rolling bigs, has good processing speeds playing off two in the paint, and showed flashes of recognizing weak side corner shooters when dragging ball screens.

Odita is due for a productive season at Miller as he fills the role as a swiss army knife that can play either forward spot thanks to his blend of size, athleticism, and strength. He's a prideful defender who showed he's more than willing to communicate both on and off the ball. He can closeout quickly on his man, chop his feet, and provide pressure without fouling despite his active hands and intense approach. That intensity comes to light on the offensive side as well in the form of rim-rocking finishes. He's best operating in isolations or kick-outs where he can attack his man and finish through contact at the rim, but Aguolu showed off some improved fluidity with his jumper over the weekend as well. If he can continue to improve as a floor-spacing threat, it'll really open up his game as a driver and not to mention, help this Miller team put together yet another successful season.

I feel like I'm higher than most on Hunter ever since I saw him in June during the scholastic live period where, to put it simply, there wasn't a defender to keep him from finding his way to the rim. That theme remains even when you watch the opposing defender cut off his first or second move, the 6-foot-3 guard somehow finds an angle to expose and get his attempt off cleanly. While the mechanics on the jumper aren't textbook, there's been a body of evidence over the last four months that clearly indicates improvement. He's one of the better scoring guards who continues to show flashes as a guy transitioning his game and blending in floor general characteristics. Nevertheless, his total production was key in their win over Petersburg (VA)

Lyons continues to build his argument and push for the No. 1 overall spot in the 2027 MD/DC rankings as his game takes new heights with each viewing. His twitch and ability to counter in a variety of situations can be put up with the best of them. His growth over the last year as well as the improvements athletically haven't just made him an above the rim finisher, but one that can throw down posterizing dunks with authority. For as gifted as he is creating space from his man, Lyons' brings a great balance as a playmaker for others. On several occasions, he turned down what would be a good shot for himself and made it into a great shot for someone else. Lyons' dynamism continues to expand and make the game for both himself and others look easy as Clinton Grace put together a strong showing through both days of action this weekend.

Arguably the most intense game I watched this weekend was between Petersburg and Archbishop Carroll. Walker's toughness matched that of Carroll's talented backcourt as he brough a tough, physical presence in guarding the ball the full length of the floor. Anytime there was a 50/50 in his vicinity, Walker was in the mix battling and any competitive talk was met by Walker and backed with his play.
