High School Spotlight: Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Marauders

The season is still a few months away, but it is never too early to look ahead at the high school season. We will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and notable games for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Mt. He is 337-249 as a head coach.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Has the team to compete for a Class 4A State Championship. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player:&nbsp;[player_tooltip player_id='1728587' first='Luke' last='Ertel']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The frontrunner and odds-on favorite to win Indiana Mr. Basketball will always be the top player in any list that we do. Purdue commit [player_tooltip player_id='1728587' first='Luke' last='Ertel'] returns for the Marauders and will be looking to do big things not only for himself but for his team as well with the goal to reach the Class 4A State Finals. Ertel brings back 22.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game from a season ago -- leading the team in all of those categories. There may not be a more productive guard in the state and based how things look, Ertel is in for a special season before he heads off to Purdue. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player(S):&nbsp;[player_tooltip player_id='2843570' first='Jamar' last='Thomas']/[player_tooltip player_id='2140419' first='Max' last='Vise']<a href="https://prephoops.com/player/justin-kirby/"></a></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When looking at the Marauders, there are two players that standout as the potential breakout player, senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2843570' first='Jamar' last='Thomas'] and junior center [player_tooltip player_id='2140419' first='Max' last='Vise']. Thomas will come in as one of the top transfers in the state coming from Lawrence North which saw him come into his own as a player. An athletic guard that can defend at a high level and has 'do-it-all' type of a skillset on the offensive end. Vise, on the other hand, is a big man in the 2027 class with an unlimited of upside as a player. At 6'8, Vise is a mobile big man that can score well in the paint, rebound at a high level, and defend the rim. Vise returns with the highest FG percentage (65%) from last year's team, as well.
