The Capitol Hoops Summer League at DeMatha provides a fertile testing ground for teams and individuals during the summer to showcase their talent. With 56 participating teams competing at two locations for 6 weeks, it gives college coaches and scouts a great opportunity to see a prospect compete at a high level vs different playing styles and athletes. Let's dive in to the dynamic guards that stood out this week!

-Incoming transfer from Ohio impressed in his debut with DeMatha as an explosive guard off the bench. Shoultz's size, quickness, and athleticism should provide the raw materials for Coach Jones to mold into a formidable perimeter defender capable of providing the Stags with some elite slashing at the other end of the floor. As he grows comfortable within their system and the area's style of play, I suspect that he should be able to play his way into a scholarship by year's end.

-Thought that Brown gave OLGC some good minutes off the bench to help put the game away in the 2H as a shifty guard that was successful bending the defense throughout the evening. Brown uses a great change of pace to throw his defender off the timing on their stunts to keep the path largely clear in front of him on his drives to the rim. An advanced handle allows him to see the floor well off the bounce and he did a great job of taking his matchup off the dribble to create easy baskets for his teammates. One of the more advanced offensive guards in the rising sophomore class in the DMV.

-Our favorite new name from the CHSL today, Hassan really stood out as a dynamic scoring guard that can fill it up from all 3 levels. Thought Hassan's pace and timing coming off of ball screens or lifts from the baseline to the corners/wings was on point and led to some open looks against a FCS team that definitely keyed on him in the 2H as the primary option. Hassan has good size for an off ball guard, puts it on the floor well to create space for his jumper, and can shoot it from all 3 levels. Has the moxie and feel to crash the glass to come up with rebounds in traffic. Really good name to monitor in Montgomery County for Juco/Prep coaches this season.

-McClinton transferred into Bullis and has fit in pretty seamlessly to the Bulldogs' culture as a team-first guard that can contribute in several areas. Love his ability to fit into the offense without dominating the ball as a shooter that can also put the ball on the floor to create for others, play-make from a standstill before the ball screen arrives to serve as a great connector, or rebound the basketball. His willingness to set off-ball screens, chase down loose balls, compete like an animal at the defensive end of the floor, and other winning traits should earn him a sizable role as the Bulldogs look to win another IAC title.

-The top rising sophomore in our MD class has been torching the CHSL from start to finish around his AAU competitions, shooting 67% from the floor in the last two games (scoring 25 in 22 mins vs Meade). Love Skipworth's patience and maturity at the offensive end of the floor as a guard that can create his own shot off the bounce but is very selective in taking the RIGHT shot. His midrange pull-up is already immaculate and he showed the development in his off-the-dribble shooting from beyond the arc with a beautiful inside out cross behind the back in transition before banging a 3 just before the buzzer with his body weight going away from the basket. His defensive IQ leads to a ton of steals and deflections that allow his team to usually dominate the transition game and create easy buckets.

-Liked the maturity and feel from Sauritch in this one. The incoming freshman guard understands when to swing the ball, when to slow the pace and run a set, when to feed the big and move off the ball-- he just seems acclimated to the pace of play already. Fresh off a tough 3 that sent the last game to OT, Sauritch was effective in spacing the floor and providing some secondary playmaking for a Bullis team looking to replace a lot of the firepower from last year's graduating class. If he's able to serve as an effective connector that can make decisions quickly on the fly while providing floor-spacing C+S ability from the perimeter-- he can earn himself a crucial role on this year's team.

-Absolutely love watching Dixon play. A shifty guard that does a GREAT job of getting others involved, he also has the skill level and scoring ability to create his own shot off the dribble. Dixon's feel for when to stunt at the ball to force turnovers along the sideline or swoop in for a steal makes him an invaluable piece in the Cardinals' full court pressure scheme that really swung this game in their favor. Dixon utilizes the Steve Nash baseline drive to create effectively for his teammates and can deliver an impressive array of different passes to get the ball to its intended target with the necessary degree of zip (pocket passes, hook passes, hammer action passes, skip passes, etc). Any college coach looking for a throwback 2-way floor general that can maximize the offensive talents of his teammates should take a look at the rising senior.
