1. Bishop Gorman - Bishop Gorman stays at the top of the power rankings after the first month of the season. Their record is 12-3and their only losses have come against Layton Christian Academy, Timpview, and Bellevue. A few standouts for them so far have been [player_tooltip player_id='986960' first='Nick' last='Jefferson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2047786' first='Kameron' last='Cooper'], [player_tooltip player_id='1965274' first='Ilan' last='Nikolov'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2370259' first='Terry' last='McKinney III']. [player_tooltip player_id='1511462' first='Jett' last='Washington'] should also be rejoining them soon, which will give them a boost. In January their toughest games are likely against Coronado (1/11), Arbor View (1/13) , and Mojave (1/21). If they take care of business and win those games, they will likely lock up the #1 seed.

2. Sierra Vista - Going from 4th to 2nd in the power rankings is Sierra Vista. Like Bishop Gorman, they have only lost 3 games this year and their record sits at 9-3. EJ DaCuma (16.4 PPG) and [player_tooltip player_id='1266705' first='Jevon' last='Yapi'] (15.1 PPG) have been the driving forces behind their offense. On the defensive end, BYU commit, [player_tooltip player_id='1281369' first='Xavion' last='Staton'] has been protecting the paint and is also averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior, [player_tooltip player_id='1253131' first='Colton' last='Knoll'], has also been doing some dirty work and has been collecting 7.2 rebounds per game, and 1.9 steals per game. Two of their biggest games in January are against 5A powerhouses Liberty (1/11) and Coronado (1/31). I can guarantee you that I'll be in attendance for those games.

3. Coronado - Coronado is still my #3 team, they've had some tough tests to open their season. Their record at the moment is 3-6, and their 3 wins have come against St. Augustine, Las Vegas, and Campbell Hall. [player_tooltip player_id='1253129' first='Mason' last='Abittan'], [player_tooltip player_id='1335934' first='Lantz' last='Stephenson'], Jalen St. Claire and [player_tooltip player_id='1463264' first='Jonny' last='Collins'] have all been catalysts in their wins. The next tournament that they'll be is at is the Nike Tournament of Champions. At NTOC they are set to square off against Roosevelt (currently ranked #15 in the country), Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks), and St. John Bosco. After the NTOC they will begin conference play and it doesn't get much easier. As they will play Centennial (1/10), Bishop Gorman (1/11), Liberty (1/30). and Sierra Vista (1/31).

4. Mojave - Mojave started the season at #2 in my power rankings and they have now been bumped down to #4 after a couple of tough losses against Sierra Vista and Arbor View. Despite those losses, they still have a strong record and are 8-3 right now. Overall, [player_tooltip player_id='1268866' first='CJ' last='Shaw'] has been very consistent with his play, and is averaging 20.9 PPG. Which puts him 9th in scoring in Nevada, and Zaccarion Jackson also sits somewhat high on the scoring list with 14.0 PPG. There next game will be against Casteel (AZ) in the Nike Tournament of Champions, and from there they will have a couple more games. Once they get back they will have a long stretch of difficult games against 5A foes. Including games against

5. Centennial - Centennial has the best record in 5A and are 14-1 through 15 games. It's been an impressive start, and I believe you can attribute their wins to their team chemistry, discipline, and high level play from guys like [player_tooltip player_id='1253141' first='Jayonni' last='Durrough'], [player_tooltip player_id='1961186' first='Bryce' last='Iwuoha'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1667943' first='Zyon' last='Harris']. Their best wins of the season have come against Arbor View, Legacy, and Cimarron. They also had a good showing at the Tarkanian Classic and went 3-1 there. If they can make it through a January without dropping too many games, they may be able to lock up one of the top 4 seeds in 5A.
