There was plenty of action this week after Christmas.

I spent my entire Saturday at Battle Ground Academy for the final day of the Battle For Nashville Tournament.

Here are some key takeaways from Saturday's slate of games:

Brown and Howard are lethal

The Webb School's starting backcourt of junior guard Eli Brown Eli Brown Eli Brown 6'2" | CG The Webb School | 2028 TN and senior guard Jax Howard Jax Howard Jax Howard 6'0" | PG Webb-Bell Buckle | 2025 State TN were impressive in the Feet's win over Independence. Both traded baskets in the second half when the team needed them. Brown and Howard did a great job of creating enough separation in iso situations. Howard, a Middle Tennessee State commit, led The Webb School with 18 points. Brown added 14. And if both can make shots like they did on Saturday, the Feet will not be an easy out for many teams.

Plenty of talent in Middle Tennessee

Brentwood Academy defeated Battle Ground Academy, 65-63, in the first game on Saturday afternoon. Junior wing Jeromy Davis got the tip-in as the buzzer sounded off Bryson Wade Bryson Wade Bryson Wade 6'0" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2027 State TN 's missed jumper. Wade, the team's starting point guard, led the Eagles with 18. He found a rhythm offensively in the second half and made crucial baskets. Davis (11), James Humphreys James Humphreys James Humphreys 6'8" | PF/C Brentwood Academy | 2028 State TN (11), Eli Klekamp Eli Klekamp 6'5" | SF Brentwood Academy | 2028 State TN (10) and Jacob Nixon Jacob Nixon 6'2" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2027 TN (10) all contributed to the win. Humphreys is a 6-foot-8 freshman big man that's in the learning process. His body isn't where it needed to be, but he has talent offensively.

Arnett Hayes Arnett Hayes Arnett Hayes 6'2" | PG Battle Ground Academy (football) | 2025 State TN was very aggressive on the offensive end. The senior guard was attacking the rim and didn't have an issue getting to his spots. He led the Wildcats with 22 points. Lawson Gillespie Lawson Gillespie Lawson Gillespie 6'3" | SF Battle Ground Academy | 2026 State TN was also a bright spot for BGA. He had 18 points.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but there's a good amount of talent in the middle part of the state.

High intensity

Sophomore guard Anthony Wiggins Anthony Wiggins Anthony Wiggins 6'0" | PG John Paul II | 2027 State TN had a quiet night on offense in Pope John Paul II's win over Briarcrest en route to this season's Battle for Nashville Tournament Championship. The 5-foot-10 guard scored only four points, but played with high intensity on the defensive end. Wiggins helped the Knights erase a 10-point deficit. He loves to sit down on defense. Wiggins showed he can contribute even when he doesn't have it going offensively. Pope John Paul II can win with a player like Wiggins.
