It is officially rankings update time here at Prep Hoops Indiana headquarters. Throughout the month of October we will be focusing on refreshing, refining, and expanding our rankings. Along with that came the release of our initial Class of 2028 Watch List. Since all of these names are very new to us we decided to not rank any of them to begin with. That has been our common practice when introducing a new class over the last couple of years. However, with 293 prospects included, we are very happy with the depth we were able to provide the freshman class as they begin their high school careers. While we don't want to specifically "rank" any of these young prospects, we do want to highlight some of those that we know are going to be towards the top of their class. Below are eight of the top freshmen prospects, listed alphabetically, that we have been able to see so far. We will release eight more names later today as well.

Between seeing him play at the varsity level at the Charlie Hughes Showcase in June and then again at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase in September, Bowling is a prospect we have been able to get eyes on multiple times. The 6'4" left-handed forward is incredibly long and bouncy which allows him to play above the rim inside. His fluid athleticism makes him hard to handle inside of 15 feet. Look for him to have a role right away at the Class 4A level for Anderson High School.

Coolman is absolutely among the best of the best prospects in Indiana's Class of 2028. He is another one that we have been able to see multiple times now between the Charlie Hughes Showcase and our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. The 6'4" point guard is so advanced with the ball in his hands for his age. He is a great passer, fluid ball handler, and can create his own shot from every level on the floor. There is no doubt that he will step into a big role right away for the Kingsmen this winter.

There is a lot of talent at Fort Wayne Wayne High School right now as the Generals look for a potential third straight Regional title. The 6'3" left-handed sharpshooter has impressive athleticism and positional size for a freshman. He first jumped onto our radar at the end of the summer when he played a key role, while playing up a year, in leading [program_tooltip program_id='2145881' first='Team' last='Robinson Basketball'] to the 15u championship game at the Prep Hoops Circuit Grit Region Finals. He will have a chance to crack the varsity rotation sooner rather than later.

You won't find many, if any, more physically impressive freshmen in the state of Indiana than this 6'5" forward from Indianapolis Lutheran. Harris stepped into a major varsity role right away in June at the Charlie Hughes Showcase proving himself as a physical rebounder and strong finisher above the rim. His physicality will carry him even against older opponents this winter. Lutheran will once again compete towards the top of Class 1A with Harris likely playing a key role in raising their ceiling as a freshman.

Another freshman that is going to step into a role right away for a highly competitive team. LaCross is a bigger guard for his age with the strength to play through contact and the perimeter skill to really stretch the defense. He was absolutely lights out from beyond the arc at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. Blackhawk Christian has moved up to the Class 3A level this season, but will still be a Top 10 team and LaCross will certainly play a role in their success from day one.

It is never fair to overhype prospects before they enter their freshman season. However, it is hard to not get excited about what Lampley can become as a prospect. He obviously has a big time pedigree and looks to have a future in the family business of basketball. The 6'5" guard displays really impressive ball handling and passing ability for his young age. Lamply is capable of running the point while having the size, length, and athleticism to operate on the wing. He absolutely projects as a high-major talent.

Sefton is so athletically gifted. He was routinely dunking in games as an eighth grader and some of that special athletic ability will allow him to transition to the varsity level sooner rather than later. There is a lineage of Sefton's going through Grace College right now and this 6'3" freshman guard certainly appears to be the next college basketball prospect of the family. His upside is very, very high.

If you are looking for the de facto top prospect in Indiana's Class of 2028, look no further than [player_tooltip player_id='2382148' first='Noah' last='Washington']. He is certainly the most heralded both on a statewide basis and nationally. While the unavoidable comparisons to Romeo Langford are unfair, Washington certainly has the makeup of a future high-major basketball player who will likely be a nationally ranked prospect when the time comes. His combination of length, athleticism, and ball skill are hard to compete with for his age.
