Took it upon himself to find open teammates, playing unselfish and moving the ball before screening/cutting effectively off of it. Handles ball pressure pretty well but needs to keep his head up while handling in traffic to see passing options. Served as a good connector for his team, moving to space then delivering a touch pass to an open teammate before the defense could rotate. Although he's right handed he's really good driving to his left and finishing with the left. Good hands on catches in traffic, good balance on spin moves and euro step moves in the paint. Willing passer off the bounce or from a standstill. Not a superhuman athlete but he times his shot blocks at the rim well and hustles to the defensive rebound to get it going the other way more quickly, second jump has really improved to finish better on putbacks. He is a pretty good passer when he's coached to do so, crosscourt drive and kick to the shooter and a great look-ahead dime from halfcourt to a sprinting teammate under the rim for a layup. Can play on or off the ball, more successful off of it because of the shooting consistency but he attacks closeouts well and finds the right passing option off of offensive rebounds. Conditioning has improved as he's grown but he'll need to ramp up the quickness in his first step to get by defenders more consistently at the varsity level. Anticipated a drive to the basket with a nice block off the ball, walled up defensively after an opponent grabbed the offensive rebound and forced a tough shot that missed. He made an above the break 3, flies around defensively, and fights to be the first to 50/50 balls and long rebounds. Crept up from behind for a steal and found a shooter for the easy assist. Threaded the needle well on a 20' bounce pass to a teammate in transition. Jumped a passing lane, missed the dunk but collected and stuck the putback at the other end. Carpenter showed the offensive upside in his first 5 on 5 game with a made 3 off the bounce, hit several acrobatic layups around the basket with good body control, and kicked out to teammates for 3s when double-teamed on the perimeter. Tight hips and lateral movement skills need to smoothen out to take advantage of the athleticism on drives to the rim as well as reaching his defensive ceiling. Most of the 3 point makes came off of spot-up C+S looks but the fluidity of the midrange pull-up off the bounce gives some optimism to the offense upside. Morris moved the rock well in the halfcourt, driving to space and drawing two before executing the crosscourt read to a teammate.
