-Continue to come away impressed with the effectiveness of Smothers’ blue collar play style. Wouldn’t say that he’s an overly flashy prospect that wins with finesse, Smothers instead attacks you with effort and consistency as a 2/3 prospect that hits the glass and guards his yard. Smothers’ outside jumper continues to improve but he is taking the right looks, finding opportunities to showcase the shooting without settling for jumpers and getting to the rim with straight line drives at the rim. He always seems to come up with important 50/50 balls or timely putbacks that lead to winning. Impressive that he looks to have carved out a role for himself at DeMatha in his senior season.

179 –> 172
Jayden has stepped into a bit of a larger role with some moves in the roster taking shape after last year. He is an active player on the floor for DeMatha. Always flying around the court defensively looking to make deflections and create havoc. Jayden pulls down a lot of rebounds on both sides of the ball when the defense fails to account for him. Does a good job moving without the ball and remaining involved and ready without seeing plays ran for him. Scores where he seeks opportunities. Stays ready for the C&S 3-pointer and runs out fast on the break to beat the D. If Jayden plays his role as an off-ball two-way guard, he should see valuable minutes on the floor for the Stags.

10p 8r vs Bullis
-Smothers was everywhere in extended run to give the Stags a jolt late in a big win over Bullis despite missing several key pieces. Smothers hit the glass to stick two putbacks in traffic to keep the lead for his team late, knocked down two big 3s late in the game, and provided great help defense throughout the contest. Loved the motor and feel off the ball to beat opponents to loose balls to extend possessions for his team in a game where every possession really mattered.

-Liked how many areas Smothers contributed in for his team throughout the showcase. He made an above the break 3, flies around defensively, and fights to be the first to 50/50 balls and long rebounds. Crept up from behind for a steal and found a shooter for the easy assist. Threaded the needle well on a 20′ bounce pass to a teammate in transition. Jumped a passing lane, missed the dunk but collected and stuck the putback at the other end. Runs pretty hard end to end to be in good position for his team.
