It is SUPER early for ranking freshmen but you have to start somewhere so we are launching the Class of 2028 rankings this week. There are some super talented kids at the top of this class and several kids who we have heard of but haven't been able to see and evaluate yet. Those players were put on the Watchlist for now. Here's a breakdown of the top power forwards and centers in our inaugural 2028 rankings. Players who made the top ten overall in the class are not mentioned in this list.

Male's [player_tooltip player_id='2360949' first='Trey' last='Hillerich'] could be the number one player in the class by the time Senior year rolls around. He reminds me a lot of [player_tooltip player_id='1130310' first='Malachi' last='Moreno'] at the same age. A little heavy footed right now and still getting coordinated, you can see the long term potential in Trey and it's easy to understand why Coach Haworth is so excited to have him at Male. Hillerich has a good three point shot and battles around the rim. Definitely a name to keep track of in 2028.

GRC freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2529552' first='CJ' last='Thomas'] impressed me on Saturday at camp and Coach Cook told me that CJ barely played for the 8th grade team last season so I'm even more intrigued now. Thomas is legit 6'6 and has the baby face that makes me think he's got a lot of growing left to do. CJ flashed some three point shooting at camp as well. Definitely a player who will be a lot better a year from now than he is at this moment.

[player_tooltip player_id='2523939' first='Israel' last='Dillard'] of Fort Campbell is probably out of place as a power forward long term but he played really hard at camp and showed a willingness to rebound and defend in a setting that doesn't always reward that. Long term, Dillard should start working on the wing and look to move to more of a small forward or stretch 4 type of role.

One name who starts the rankings on the watchlist is Jackson County's [player_tooltip player_id='2360963' first='Corey' last='Cunagin']. Cunagin was one of the most impressive players to me at 8th grade state in the spring. He has polish around the rim and plays with a definite mean streak. Corey isn't ranked yet because watching 10 minutes of an 8th grade game 6 months ago is not enough to go off of to rank a kid right now but I am interested to see what Cunagin becomes, long term.
