After spending the first three weekends of the spring covering the Prep Hoops Circuit, I spent this past weekend bouncing between two different events in Indianapolis focusing more specifically on Indiana teams and prospects. Here are seven freshmen that really caught my attention.
Sunday proved why Elkins was included in the Top 10 of our initial Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings here at Prep Hoops Indiana. The 6’3″ left-handed guard has an excellent mixture of athleticism, skill, and positional size for his age. Elkins hit some tough step back three-point shots on the perimeter, finished above the rim a couple of times in transition, and created for himself going to the basket in the half court. Really intriguing prospect. Played very well for Progeny UA Rise 2027 against Indiana Elite 3SSB 2027.
It is hard to find freshmen guards with the level of raw explosiveness that Gardner Jr. possesses off of the bounce. He is incredibly quick end-to-end, has high-level shiftiness in the half court, and also knocked in some jump shots on Sunday. Garner Jr. plays with Indiana Elite 3SSB 2027 after being a valuable backup guard for the 29-1 Class 4A State Champion Fishers Tigers.
Grissom is an athletic guard that fluidly slices his way through the defense on the way to the basket. He was excellent when operating off of ballscreen action and scored it from multiple different spots across the floor in the game I watched on Friday night as Grand Park Premier Pro16 2027 rolled to an easy victory.
Among the most impressive Class of 2027 prospects from the weekend, Kaegi is a very, very skilled guard out of Crown Point High School. He has a solid frame at 6’1″ and pairs it with excellent shooting ability. Kaegi proved himself as a threat both off of the catch and the dribble while also passing it with precision to his teammates. Love his long-term upside as he continues to grow. Another top prospect playing with Grand Park Premier Pro16 2027.
Grayson Mcfalls

Mcfalls has the obvious size at 6’7″ with a strong build that stands out right away. However, he also stepped out to the perimeter and nailed a face-up three in the game I watched on Friday night. He was dominant throughout on the glass and showcased some good hands and footwork around the basket. His best basketball is well ahead of him.
One of the many skilled guards for Grand Park Premier Pro16 2027, Miller came out of the gate hot showing off of his three-point shooting ability on Friday night. He moves off of screening action well with good footwork and can get his shot off in a hurry. Miller also flashed some good court vision and passing ability. Talented young player with a high skill level.
Highlights
You don’t come across many 6’10” freshmen with the level of strength that Vandegriff displayed on Sunday. He is a well put together center that scored it through contact inside and made several nice passes out of a double team without getting sped up. The sky is the limit for Vandegriff and he should have a huge summer, no pun intended, for Indiana Elite 3SSB 2027.
