While the positions might have changed, these players are still some of the best that will hit the various circuits this summer. In this rankings review, we will look at the top ten of the class of 2025 in Louisiana.
1. Christopher Cenac Christopher Cenac 6'9" | SF Isidore Newman | 2025 State #54 Nation LA – Cenac is arguably the best player in the state regardless of class. He has the ability to hurt teams inside and out offensively while protecting the rim defensively. His ascent to #1 in this class was almost inevitable. Winning the MOP of the state title game helped that cause also.
2. Drew Timmons Drew Timmons 6'6" | SF Archbishop Hannan | 2025 State #52 Nation LA – Timmons was a district MVP and an all-state 1st team selection. Call him a guard or a wing, he is one of the best players at scoring the rock Louisiana has. His ability to play on the perimeter and in the paint makes him an interesting prospect to say the least.
3. Daijon Leatherman Daijon Leatherman 6'9" | PF Carver | 2025 State LA – The Class 4A Most Outstanding Player is the best back-to-the-basket big man Louisiana has seen in years. His ability to rebound and score in the paint is unmatched by anyone over 6’5″. Leatherman has made his mark as a traditional big and colleges have taken notice. He is a throwback player who is dominant in his role.
4. Christopher Birden Christopher Birden 6'8" | SF Isidore Newman | 2025 State #282 Nation LA – Birden may not have impressed the sportswriters this season. However, he is one of the biggest talents in this class. Birden is a wing who is excellent in transition. He is also a player who can defend on the perimeter and lock things down. Birden is developing into a prototypical 3 & D player with a ton of potential.
5. Jeremiah Lucas Jeremiah Lucas 6'4" | SG Bonnabel | 2025 State #311 Nation LA – If district play and playoffs showed us one thing, it displayed that Lucas is a bonafide prep star in Louisiana. He is a three level scorer who can punish teams with his offensive rebounding ability. Lucas can take over games scoring from the mid-range as well. His star will continue to rise from the momentum of this season.
6. Garrett Shoemaker Garrett Shoemaker 6'8" | SF Oak Forest Academy | 2025 State LA – There is no one in the public or private school setting who has the skill set Shoemaker has. He has the ability to score from distance, be lethal in the mid-range, and rebound like a big. His three level scoring prowess and his ability to fill the lane on the break make him special.
7. Xavier Ferguson Xavier Ferguson 6'2" | CG Zachary | 2025 State #322 Nation LA – Ferguson has true combo guard skills. While he has the ability to score from the perimeter as well as attack rim, Ferguson can facilitate the offense. He has a high IQ for the game and has an innate ability to know how to attack offensively. His perimeter defense is also high caliber as well.
8. Kobe Butler Kobe Butler 6'7" | SF Archbishop Shaw | 2025 State LA – Butler may have the biggest upside of any of the top ten players. He is an elite defender who can protect the rim at a high level while giving support on the perimeter. His offense is still rounding into form. Butler can also rebound at a high level which makes him a candidate to finish with a putback dunk at any time.
9. Antron Mason II Antron Mason II 6'1" | CG Wossman | 2025 State LA – Mason is an all-state and all-NELA performer. He is also the best scoring point guard in this class. Mason has high level vision and finds players with all types of passes. He can score at all three levels and has become a solid perimeter defender. His ability to play the point is second to none.
10. Lantavious Murphy Lantavious Murphy 6'3" | SG Rayville | 2025 State LA – Murphy is the best all-around basketball player in the class. He can score, rebound, and pass like no other wing or guard. His basketball IQ and athletic ability make him one of the most feared athletes on the hardwood.
This top ten is one of the most important groups of players that Louisiana has. They can literally go out and compete with any other top ten in the country. Some people think that Louisiana is a football state. Well, we have hoops too and this top ten signifies that.
