Donald Tatum | Prep Hoops Scout
Mason might just be the most important player on the court tonight. His scoring prowess has captivated local fans, but tonight’s game could be the biggest of his local career. A threat from three-point range, deadly in the mid-range, and able to finish through contact at the rim, Mason can score at all three levels. Add in his high-level defense and you have a complete player. A college-ready point guard with the skills to make an impact at the next level, Mason’s return to Bastrop after winning a championship with Wossman has been a major storyline. Currently ranked as the #12 player in the Class of 2025, Antron Mason may be the best two-sport athlete in the unsigned 2025 class. Dominating in both football and basketball, Mason has the offers to prove his prowess in each sport. On the basketball court, he plays with a confidence that only champions possess, looking completely at ease in every game.
Mason has grown into his body, improving his skills across the board and refining every aspect of his game. He is a two-way force, excelling on both ends of the court, and his impressive numbers — currently averaging 22 points per game — are a testament to his all-around ability. Whether in football or basketball, Mason is primed to contribute at the next level, with his combination of talent, athleticism, and work ethic making him a high-impact player.
The big question now is not whether Mason will play at the Division I level — that’s all but guaranteed — but which program will win the highly coveted Antron (Trae) Mason sweepstakes? Football, basketball, or perhaps both?

Mason spent time at both guard positions over the last three years and Wossman benefited. Antron gets the team involved early before getting involved heavily in the offense. His willingness to take, and make, game winners is evident of that. Mason will play his senior season for Bastrop. More than likely Antron will employ the same formula.

Antron Mason got all of his buckets off his scoring instincts and counter moves. Mason was likely the best slasher in the division, his knack for slithering into the teeth of the defense and completing the play at the rack was at a much higher level than most of his peers. He looked like a master at drawing contact to get downhill by leaning into his defender and staying low while attacking at their hip and cuffing the ball for protection through traffic. Deep layup package, very crafty and creative with a different type of finish for however he’s defended, often using an inside hand layup whenever a defender is draped on his back, and always knowing how to reverse it when a defender is attempting to block him at an angle. Antron played at his own pace, he decelerated in the open floor to initiate contact on his way up with a shot which resulted in multiple and-one foul calls. Within the flow of the offense, Mason showed a high understanding of how to get to his spots in a limited amount of dribbles. His mid-range pull-up came well-equipped with with a stepback, a fadeaway, or a combination of the two.
