Continue ReadingThis week, we saw the first rankings release for the class of 2027 in Louisiana. This freshman class has some top tier talent with some of these players already receiving national acclaim for their play. While this first ranking only has 72 players, the top ten are some of the more heralded players around the state. With that said, let’s look at the players that comprise the top ten in the class of 2027.
1. Tyrone Jamison Tyrone Jamison 6'1" | CG Calvary Baptist | 2027 State LA – The Calvary Baptist guard has been highly touted since 8th grade and only got better as a freshman. He was a key starter on a district champion and has begun the spring with big games for his travel team. Jamison is a three level scorer who is developing a better feel for the point. With the ball in his hands constantly, that is a very scary proposition.
2. Ahmad Hudson Ahmad Hudson 6'6" | SF Ruston | 2027 State LA – Hudson may be the most physical forward on this list. He is a football state champion that stepped on the hardwood and made immediate dividends. Hudson wreaks havoc in the open floor and has a myriad of showcase finishes to prove it. His ability to finish and defend the paint sets him apart.
3. Elijah Haven Elijah Haven 6'5" | SF Dunham | 2027 State LA – The freshman forward from Dunham is one of the better all-around players in the state. He has the ability to score at all three levels and can defend multiple positions. Haven has a toughness about him as well that allows him to finish well in the paint amid traffic. His football prowess transfers well to the hardwood and makes him a high level talent.
4. Ethan Kimmie Ethan Kimmie 6'3" | SF University Lab | 2027 State LA – The University Lab wing is a live wire on offense and defense. He is an active defensive player who can defend in space and in the paint. Offensively, Ethan attacks the glass with the drive as well as he does when he rebounds. Kimmie can change the game with his play on both ends which makes him special.
5. Markez Davis Markez Davis 6'2" | CG Northwest | 2027 State LA – Northwest has a play maker in Davis. He is a guard who can score from the mid-range and finish at the rim. Davis is also a player who does not mind playing the passing lanes and starting the break. He has the ability to finish above the rim and often does when he is in the open floor. Davis is an all-around guard with a ton of potential.
6. Rodrieon Dillard Rodrieon Dillard 6'3" | SF Booker T. Washington | 2027 State LA – The wing from BTW-Shreveport first rose eyebrows with his play at the Prep Hoops Top 250. He is a player who can get it off the glass, lead the break, and pass for a finish like a guard. Dillard can finish above the rim as well and shoot it from the perimeter. He is a player who can do multiple things on the floor and looks like an upperclassmen doing it.
7. Peyton Parker Peyton Parker 6'0" | CG Huntington | 2027 State LA – There probably isn’t a better shooter in the 2027 class than Peyton Parker Peyton Parker 6'0" | CG Huntington | 2027 State LA . The Huntington guard got thrown to the fire with the Raiders schedule and swam successfully. Parker has not met a jumper he cannot make. His range is from the timeline in. Once he gets a little stronger, I expect his range to extend and his attacks to the cup to increase. He is a guard with range and potential.
8. Jackson Chewning Jackson Chewning 6'2" | SF French Settlement | 2027 State LA – Chewning is an all-around player who has a very high ceiling. He is a player who can handle, shoot, and rebound at a high level. Chewning is also a great help defender and reads passing lanes extremely well. His ability to score at every level puts pressure on defenses. However, his defense changes games and extends leads. Chewning is as good as advertised.
9. Jaiden Hall Jaiden Hall 6'0" | CG Captain Shreve | 2027 State LA – If he had been eligible, Hall may have helped Captain Shreve to a state title. That is how good he is. Hall is a lead guard who can shoot the lights out and get to the rim with the best of them. He has upper body control which always seems to help him get the ball to the rim through contact. His ability to guard one through three set him apart from others. He will be a guard to watch going forward.
10. Jaden Davis Jaden Davis 6'6" | PF Airline | 2027 State LA – The Airline forward has great footwork and soft hands. That recipe spells success for a player who plays with his back to the basket. Davis is a bruiser but is agile enough to complete plays around the basket. He is also a big man who can run the floor as well. His ability to control the paint sets him apart and makes him a high level talent.
This is the initial rankings release and this top ten is full of high caliber players. As the list of players in this class expands, so shall the talent level. Be on the look out as these players play on the various circuits this summer. This is a group to watch as they progress on the hardwood.
