There was no doubt about who the #1 player in the class was going to be. From the first time we saw North Scott wing Josiah Harrington Josiah Harrington 6'4" | SG North Scott | 2027 State IA play, back in December against Assumption, it was clear that he’s a special talent. A poised wing with a silky smooth stroke, great length, and the demeanor and confidence of a top-5 senior, Harrington is the type of high-level wing prospect who will have college coaches blowing up his phone in no time. He has gotten off to a strong spring start with Chicago-based Meanstreets, an EYBL program, and has a stranglehold on the top spot in the state at this early stage.
The emergence of Iowa United
Iowa’s newest AAU program makes a strong debut in the 2027 rankings, with six players ranked among the top 15 in this initial ranking. The 3SSB-affiliated program will certainly continue to draw some of the top players in the state to their roster with the adidas affiliation. Kingdom Hoops also looks to have a very strong 2027 class, with three of the top five players in this update playing with that program.
A bevy of wing talent
While the 2026 class could be the “Class of the Big Man”, the 2027 class looks to be extremely heavy in wing talent. The group is obviously headlined by Harrington, but there are a ton of talented wings behind him as well – Roosevelt’s Charlie King Charlie King 6'4" | CG Roosevelt | 2027 State IA , Woodbine’s Landon Blum Landon Blum 6'5" | SG Woodbine | 2027 State IA (pictured), Pleasantville’s Braylon Bingham Braylon Bingham 6'2" | SG Pleasantville | 2027 State IA , Sioux City East’s Fami Yusuf Fami Yusuf 6'3" | SG Sioux City East | 2027 State IA , Johnston’s Jaden Houser Jaden Houser 6'2" | SF Johnston | 2027 State IA , and Ankeny’s Jasani Campbell Jasani Campbell 6'2" | SF Ankeny | 2027 State IA – within the top 10.
Be patient!
There are currently 80 players ranked in this class, but if you don’t see your name on this initial list, don’t panic! Additionally, if you think you’re too low on this list, use it as motivation! Over the course of your high school career, these rankings will expand to at least 250 players, and there is plenty of time to be seen, make your name known to us and those around the state, and make major jumps up the rankings. These rankings, especially this early on, are extremely fluid and there will be major movement with each update. There is no reason that you can’t go from an unranked player in this initial ranking to a top-5 player in the class by the time you graduate. Keep working hard, developing your game and body, and trust the process!
