Check out five frontcourt players who are worthy of more attention going into grassroots season, and are set for big seasons, college offers, and increased exposure.
Copeland is a name who continues to garner MM and HM D1 interest as a 6’9 forward has mobility and ball skills to be versatile and play at a high level. Able to take bigger forwards off the dribble and beat their hips out of the post or a face up action, making him super hard to guard. He’s just as good with his back to the basket, with a short jump hook and a dropstep the main moves he has in his arsenal. Has an athletic pop to his game that allows him to be effective on offense or defense just as well. Going to be a big time player if he continues to develop and play with consistency.
Wilson has had a productive year with South Wake Homeschool as he looks to make an impression on the grassroots circuit again this summer with Garner Road . He’s got great positional size but also brings a nice blend of physicality and quickness as well. Able to create with the ball in his hands on occasion while attacking closeouts. Impressive rebounder who brings energy and toughness while attacking the glass, looking to stick back shots as soon as he comes down with an O board.
Highlights
Haynes is a forward prospect getting hot at the right time for his EA Prep Stars group. His motor is impressive, as he’s always looking to get involved in the play that is unfolding whether it’s in transition, on the glass, or in the half court. His ability to get on the boards on both ends is important as he uses his size and strength to make his presence felt. Good touch around the basket and in the post, making him a difficult defensive matchup because of both his ability to score it as well as having the ability to understand when to kick it out and keep playing.
Highlights
Santos is another physical forward playing with EA Prep that should be a target for local schools looking for a big in next year’s recruiting class. At 6’9, 220 pounds, he’s got a college ready frame which includes a frame with strength and power, putting guys through the rim and the paint with that size. Good rim protector and defender, pretty decent mobility for his size which means combined with his strength, he’s able to go 1 on 1 in the post defensively.
Highlights
Clayton is a skilled forward who needs more attention for the kind of game that he has. He’s got great IQ, making good decisions offensively in the post. Also has some good touch when it comes to finishing over guys down there. Defensively, he does all the typical things you expect out of a 4/5 man and blocks shots really well. Has great timing and arms that can still alter a shot even if the defender is bodying in to take away the shot blocker.
