Expert Analysis
Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
Copeland rounded out a three-headed attack for the NC Intruders as he acted as the anchor in the painted area for their squad in their quest to the Silver Championship. He showed off he could block shots with his length and energy and was even more impressive when attacking the rim in the halfcourt for his squad. He posted 21 points in his best outing against the Carolina Aces in their semifinal come-from-behind victory. He’s an emerging prospect to get to know as he joins Combine Academy/Blue Checks on the OTE stage.

Copeland is a name who continues to garner MM and HM D1 interest as a 6’9 forward has mobility and ball skills to be versatile and play at a high level. Able to take bigger forwards off the dribble and beat their hips out of the post or a face up action, making him super hard to guard. He’s just as good with his back to the basket, with a short jump hook and a dropstep the main moves he has in his arsenal. Has an athletic pop to his game that allows him to be effective on offense or defense just as well. Going to be a big time player if he continues to develop and play with consistency.

Provided the majority of the offense for his team in their matchup against PCHS, scoring the ball inside the paint with a high amount of efficiency. What we liked the most about him was the fact that although he has the ability to score from the perimeter, he didn’t settle and attacked the paint for some easier scoring opportunities.

Copeland has backed up the recruiting hype he’s gotten on the travel ball scene so far in HS, as he’s been a key piece to St. David’s resurging a bit this year. He’s pulled down 71 total rebounds in 7 contests, and averaging a double-double on the young season. He’s the engine to what makes the Warriors run, and he’ll need to keep having monster performances if they want to contend in the private school ranks.

Copeland showed flashes of his ability to finish around the rim in spurts for RCA. He’s finding his confidence around the rim as a strong finisher and even knocked down their first 3-pointer of the game to finish with 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. He’s another 2025 name to keep an eye with RCA given his athleticism, length and rebounding ability.

Copeland has really come into his own in the frontcourt this season for Raleigh Christian Academy. He’s averaging 5.4 ppg and 7.0 rpg in 2022-23 and starting to find his way as a rim protector as well. As he finds his aggression in the paint, look for his recruitment to grow in the 2025 class.
